Marie Antoinette The movie I chose was about the infamous Marie Antoinette. The movie starts out with Marie Antoinette in her hometown having fun with her family and friends in Austria. The youngest out of seven her mother sets Marie up with Louis XVI the Dauphin of France in hopes that it will calm the feud between the two countries. Before she leaves, she has to get rid of anything from Austria, everything she adores even her adorable pug that follows her around everywhere she goes. She must leave everything behind and start a new with French Fashion. She was taken into the woods and then into French carriages to the Palace of Versailles. There the two of them very young of age are married. It starts out rocky and slow. No one is excited …show more content…
Marie Antoinette continued to be a convenient target for their rage (History). On October 1789, a mob of Parisian women protesting the high cost of bread and other goods marched to Versailles, dragged the entire royal family back to the city, and imprisoned them in the Tuileries (History.com).” They blamed Marie for everything even though she may not have done anything against them. Many cartoonist and pamphlets made fun of her and directed towards her this created a major hate for the people. Just like when we watch the news and see magazine covers they create an image that is not there to sale an idea. I found another interesting fact “there is no evidence that Marie Antoinette ever said that starving peasants should “eat cake” if they had no bread. In fact, the story of a fatuous noblewoman who said, “Let them eat cake!” appears in the philosopher Jean-Jacques Rousseau’s Confessions, which was written around 1766 (when Marie Antoinette was just 11 years old).” It really was the French being upset with her because of where she came from and being upset with the monarchs in …show more content…
We have a new president and the media goes crazy! We all will never agree on what is right for the country but the media fuels the fire. Marie Antoinette although a frivolous spender and oblivious to the things of France I sometimes feel as if those in charge are the same. We have people who make laws for us and are in charge of many different things that we the people need yet they have no idea what we need. They make more than us, and live in a whole other world entirely. Where they are sent to different countries to parties and to meet with foreign countries who also look past the needs of their own
...ult to choose her growing environment, and also she was influenced by Louis XVI, as I mentioned above. Marie Antoinette was just viewed as a traitor, because she support Austria instead. She will definitely support her brother, because he was her family. French people couldn't forgave her. After she married, she need time to get use to her new life, but her husband didn't stop her to spend that much money, because he himself did that too, so their behaviors slowly became a cause of French Revolution.
Marie Antoinette and the French Revolution. David Grubin Productions, Inc. 13 Sept. 2006. Web. 1 Dec. 2013.
November 1st, 1783- Marie had her second miscarriage, which caused more fears for her health.
]“Little by little, the old world crumbled, and not once did the king imagine that some of the pieces might fall on him.” – Jennifer Donnelly. The French Revolution was a time period in which the people of its country had enough. They ripped up the thousand-year-old monarchy and redesigned their country’s way of government. The French Revolution was a time of struggle for its people. King Louis XVI had essentially bankrupted the country with his lavish spending and his involvement in the American Revolution. While the king was living a luxurious life, his people couldn’t even eat. During this time the king had people heavy taxes on the Third Estate, which consisted of 98% of the population, causing the French citizens to resent the monarchy. This lead to riots, looting, and strikes in a stance for better living conditions. Women of France had a specific hatred of the queen, Marie Antoinette. In the early days of October 1789, thousands of Partisans, several of which were women, walked
The movie I chose is “Rudy”. It is about a young adult named Rudy Ruettiger, who wants to play football at the University of Notre Dame. Rudy does not want to work in a steel mill like his father does. He does not have money for tuition and has no chances with being qualified with a scholarship for good grades because he has been fighting his dyslexia. Also, Rudy’s performances in athletics are poor, and the size of his body is not to the standards of a football player. Although, he works hard and gains admission to Notre Dame to begin his career in football.
Outside threats from foreign countries did in no way justify the acts of the Reign of Terror. Foreign countries such as Austria and Prussia had reason to act. If they didn’t access the situation quickly, the revolution would spread to their countries and their people would also rebel. Austria itself was worried about the safety of Louis XVI’s wife, Queen Marie Antoinette, who was a daughter in the Austrian royal family (Doc. B). They had reason to
Newspapers and nightly news shows have become a business. They no longer go by the public services values they once stood by (Sensationalism, 2005). Instead of being the fourth branch of government, they are just like any other money making business. It is no longer a race to put out the truth; it is more a race for dollars and control. Sensationalism is purely fueled by money and popularity. If a news outlet garners a large amount of popularity, they can swing votes, and influence voters. Sensationalism has already affected many political situations. Sensationalism has proven to spread like a virus. If sensationalism is not controlled, there is no way the news outlets can be the advocate for the people.
Thesis Statement: Marie Antoinette is an influential person because she was only fourteen years old when she got married. She was also a teen idol and after she passed away a U.S city was named in honor of her. Marie Antoinette was born on November 2, 1755, in Vienna, Austria (Source 1). Marie Antoinette was the 15th out of 17 children from her mother (Source 1). Marie Antoinette’s parents were emperor Francis I and empress Maria Empress (Source 3). Marie Antoinette lived a childhood that was mainly carefree (Source 4). Her education was emblematic of an upper class girl (Source 1). She mainly learned how to act and how not to act when she was at school during her childhood (Source 1). France and Austria had been enemies for a long time, but when Maria Theresa and Emperor Francis I were king and queen they made a treaty (Source 3). The king’s body was respected as sacred to the nation, and only after he was no longer king could the National Convention put him on trial. There were no such stipulations with the queen. Her body was sexualized and disrespected throughout her trial and execution. The queen was also accused of incest with her son, the Dauphin. These allegations of incest paint her as a bad mother. As queen, she was both mother of the heir to the French throne and mother of the nation, she was the highest degree of matriarch. By claiming incest between mother and son, Marie Antoinette’s maternal authority is being questioned, which reflects badly on all women of France, as she was their matriarch. Marie Antoinette was used to declare feminists as enemies and devalue women and their ability to lead, essentially saying all women would use their feminine charms to trick and deceive, when the French Revolution and Enlightenment valued transparency and
The stories of Antoinette's excesses are very much overstated. In fact, rather than ignoring France's growing financial crisis, she reduced the royal household staff, eliminating many unnecessary positions that were based solely on privilege. In the process she offended the nobles, adding their condemnation to the scandalous stories spread by royal hopefuls. It was the nobility that balked at the financial reforms the government ministers tried to make, not the King and Queen, who were in favor of change. In truth, Antoinette and Louis were placed in harms' way not only by elements of their personalities, but by the changing face of political and social ideology in the 18th and 19th centuries.
So in conclusion you can see that in reality Queen Marie Antoinette, the last queen of France, was not guilty. Although she was falsely accused on many accounts, she should've paid more attention to her French subjects. This was why she apperantly the last queen of
From the above arguments it is clear that Marie Antoinette was in no way responsible for the French revolution. While it was true that the she was concerned about her enjoyment and happiness she can never be blamed for the taxes, famine, remarks of great philosophers, influence of American revolutionaries, weak ruler etc. The French
Overall Coppolas did an exceptional job in telling the story of Marie Antoinette’s life before the French revolution through its mise-en-scene. The film had amazing setting, costume, lighting and change of figure behavior. Everything from beginning to end was very appealing to the eyes. The film was very entertaining and fun to watch.
Marie Antoinette, Queen of France from 1770 to 1797 was despised by the people of France. Their hatred of her and the monarchy in general led to the French Revolution. Many issues led to the unpopularity of Queen Maria Antoinette, her vanity, her disregard for the people, but perhaps the most significant was the Affair of the Diamond Necklace.
When times of trouble strike a nation, the citizens turn to the government for assistance. However, in the times of the French Revolution, the government was not there to look up to for reassurance. In the eyes of some, the meaning of the French motto, liberty, equality, fraternity, had ended with the start of the revolution. But to others, the revolution was the true birth of this motto. With the marriage of King Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette, came animosity from the people. Marie Antoinette's life greatly impacted the lives of French citizens. Her unfulfilling marriage and the careless way she spent her money, most ultimately led to her celebrated death of many.
