Mahalia Jackson was an international gospel singer that touch the heart of millions through her songs. People referred to her as “the queen of gospel” for her energy at singing and her strong voice that characterized her. Since little, she sang at church in chorus and through all her life god inspired her to never stop to sing gospel. In fact, one of her most famous quotes was “Gospel songs are the songs of hope. When you sing gospel, you have the feeling there is a cure for what’s wrong.”(Whitman, “Mahalia Jackson”) Jackson was an influence in people and participated in important events in cooperation of important people such as Thomas Dorsey, who collaborate with Jackson to play the piano along with her voice.

Eventually, she sign a contract with a label company that would record 30 albums from the queen of gospel and make her a radio show for gospel music, Columbia Records. From there on, Mahalia Jackson become an international celebrity making tours in Europe and appearing in several interviews in television shows, singing in huge events like the Newport Jazz Festival and the inauguration of President Kennedy in 1961, further of gaining large quantities of money in her concerts. She also make collaborations with many other celebrities of jazz such as Duke Ellington and Percy Faith.
Despite of all her talent and fame throughout the world, discrimination and racism was a problem for the queen of gospel at home in Chicago. The fear of have a negative response because of these factors were a reason for her radio show to being canceled and her desire of have a television show to never be reached.
