The Generation of Technology Robotic pets are duplicates of real pets, but instead of a heart and ears, it has a computer and speakers. Robotic pets are fairly new, but have become very popular throughout the world. These so called “pets” have been very helpful to many people. They can also be harmful. Robotic pets bring the feeling of being ignored, lack of responsibility, and separation from others. The feeling of being ignored by a robotic pet can happen allot, this is explained in the following evidence. First, Mullin describes in her article, “Love In the Time of Robots,” that if a child’s toy loves them back they will love it more due to the attention given to them. Mullin explains, “Kids love their stuffed animals, so it makes sense that they would love robotic pets even more if those pets seemed to love them back.” (Mullin). In having a child love something so much and something suddenly happens to the robotic pet can leave the child feeling ignored, especially by something they really loved. Later on, this will get even worse on having robotic pets. Secondly, there is a saying that a dog is a man’s best friend. People will stop hanging out with people, and start playing tug of war with a robotic dog, especially when it’s a man’s best friend. Thirdly, ”... providing an elderly woman with comfort and companionship, might also cause that woman to isolate herself from human interaction” (Mullin). An elderly woman can become isolated by just using technology. In having pets that will keep the elderly happy is a great thing and all, but problems will start to appear overtime. People say that these problems can be fixed, but there could many more than just one
