5The English 102 class taught by Professor Malchodi has taught me many aspects of the theme of “life passages” and the works of literature inside and out. My engagement in class has taught me more about the works of literature regarding the theme of “life passages” and, expanded my abilities to engage in meaningful discussion through discussion groups during class, and writing essays. My engagement with the material through group discussions, writing essays, the focus on myself, and fitting into the classroom setting all contribute to building my foundation of literary works and knowledge.

The assigned writing assessments, journals, and essays all incorporate me trying to analyze and go in depth of the assigned readings. All the forms of the writing assignments incorporate one another with the theme of “life passages.” However, each story provides different situations and backgrounds. For our writing assignments, I would write in-depth about my reactions and thoughts towards the stories I have read and analyzed the literary elements and how they advance our theme of “life passages.” I enjoy that the theme of “life passage” is the main prerogative for the class and writing assignments. That most of the stories we have read in class carry a lesson, my writing abilities have grown positively from my engagement with these writing assignments. I’ve never been in a classroom setting that expected us to discuss our writing assignments.Such as discussing our journals to the class and in the assigned groups in every class. I was skeptical of the idea first, but now I have learned to appreciate the class and group discussion idea. Besides sharing our reactions and ideas, I have developed more personal relationships with my classmates from this.
