BACKGROUND OF THE STUDY The LGBTQ+ community consists of the people whose gender identities, romantic, and sexual preferences do not fall into the traditional category of heterosexuality. Over the years, the community has grown and has become more confident in expressing who they are, and are extremely vocal in terms of their demand for equal rights. However, their very existence has been met with criticism, usually on the grounds that not following the usual norm of marrying or being with someone of the opposite gender is a direct violation of religious beliefs or traditions. While there is no real assurance that the stereotypes that surround their community will be completely eradicated, open-mindedness must exist in order to avoid conflict despite varying beliefs and perspectives. This stand is relevant as regardless of sexuality or gender preference, everybody shares the same sentiments as human beings. There is no real need for labels - they’re all there because of the human need to categorize. But it doesn’t mean that labels are always correct. There will always be people who are different; and that doesn’t necessarily require understanding - just respect. The 2015 Youth Risk Reduction Survey of LGB students conducted by Centers for Disease Control and Prevention in Atlanta, Georgia were used as the basis of the research. In addition, the data from the YRRS manifests that 34% of the surveyed students were bullied on school property. The researchers wanted to test if those statistics were true in the Ateneo de Davao University. The main objective of this study is to raise awareness and eradicate issues such as discrimination, making false assumptions and stereotypes towards the LGBTQ+ community. In order to achieve this, others should identify and listen to varying opinions (especially those opposing each other), as well as clarify certain issues that are aimed towards the LGBTQ+, therefore promoting understanding and allowing others to sympathize with the community’s members. The study aims to fulfill the following projects to eradicate issues around the LGBTQ+ Community: 1. To introduce a paradigm shift in the perspectives and attitudes of students towards the LGBTQ+ community; 2. To encourage acceptance, respect and appreciation of the rights and diversity of the LGBTQ+ community exhibited by the students’ action and behavior inside and outside the school campus; and 3.
