As most of you know, this past quarter I have been interning for the San Luis Obispo Superior Court and will continue to do so until I graduate from college in 2019. Additionally, this summer I got the amazing opportunity to go abroad and take what I've learned from my current internship and apply those skills at various different international law firms in Madrid, Spain as part of the Lex Fellowship. Of course, nothing is ever free and the cost associated with this fellowship is manageable only if I had no other bills to pay. I currently work two separate jobs in addition to my internship and the money I make alone covers my utilities, rent, and any other school associated costs. Through my internship I have learned a lot about the various different kinds of civil law: car accidents, evictions, adoptions, wrongful death cases, collections cases, etc. and I am interested in the Lex Fellowship because of the broader opportunities to gain experience in other areas of the law: international human rights, criminal law, intellectual property, entertainment law, etc. My program date is from July 15th through August 10th. There is a $700 enrollment fee, which I have already paid and is nonrefundable, and the rest of the program cost is approximately $3,299 which includes housing, transportation, travel insurance and of course the opportunity itself. Food and my round trip plane ticket are not included in the program fee so I will have to front those costs myself. I've never even been on a plane! After I graduate in June of next year I will be taking a gap year and returning to school to pursue a JD/PhD program with in an emphasis in either Political Methodology or Women, Gender and Sexuality. I have taken classes with the following topics: the equal protection clause of the 14th amendment, queer and disability studies, feminist legal theory, reproductive politics, the social construction of "whiteness", free speech, mock trial, restorative justice, constitutional theory, business legal theory, and more. My senior project, which I will be completing by the next year, involves how vegan/vegetarianism and the animal rights movement impacts indigenous/non western cultures. I have spent the last two years on the Cal Poly Debate Team as a judge and have traveled to over eight different universities in the state of California to participate in intercollegiate competitions. I am also involved in two different co-ed fraternities: Alpha Phi Omega (an international service fraternity) and Phi Alpha Delta (an international pre-law fraternity) which I hold an executive position
