Leonardo da Vinci was born on April 15,1452 and died May 2, 1519 at the age of 67. His parents were Piero da Vinci and Caterina that lived in Florence. He was an Italian man with lots of interests including inventing inventions, painting, sculpting, science, music, engineering, mathematics, literature, geology, botany, architecture, history, writing, and many other areas. He is most known as an artist in history. He is considered one of the greatest painters of all time. Lots of the historians call him the “Renaissance Man” because he was such a curious man with an outstanding imagination. He created many paintings and drawings that made an impact in history in several ways.

He was hired to paint a couple of things but he never completed them. By the time da Vinci was around thirty years old he wrote a letter to the Duke of Milan, named Ludovic Sforza, stating how much he could do in the field of engineering if given the chance and that he could also paint. He was hired by the Duke and worked for him from 1482 to 1499. He did many things for the Duke such as preparations for special events, floats, designs for the Dome of the Milan Cathedral, and a clay model known as ‘Gran Cavallo”. During this time he also painted the Virgin of the Rocks for the Confraternity of the Immaculate Conception. He did The Last Supper for the monastery of Santa maria delle Grazie. It is also said that he might have painted a Holy Family for Matthias Corvinus. In 1502 he began working for Cesare Borgia, the son of Pope Alexander VI, as a military architect and engineer. He created a map of Cesare Borgia’s stronghold, which was very uncommon during this time. Maps were a rare gem to have in this day. He also created another map for him that would help the military before moving on to others things. In 1503 Leonardo was back in Florence to create the Mural of “The Battle of Anghiari for the Signoria. It is a painting of the last meal Jesus shared with his disciples before his death. It was painted for the refectory of the Convent of Santa Maria della Grazie in Milan. Next, the Mona Lisa painting is maybe the most famous paintings in the world. The smile is very intriguing to people. It is located in the Louvre Museum in Paris, France for visitors to see. Another painting Virgin and Child with St. Anne is one that da Vinci did that has figures or people in a landscape. He also created a Mural called The Battle of Anghiara for the Salone dei Cinquecento.The Vitruvian Man (1485) is a drawing by da Vinci that shows a study of the proportions of the Human body that still stands true today. Virgin of the Rocks is another famous painting that is located in the National Gallery in London. He also created maps and other drawings that helped in the world of science.
