Leggings Problem In Schools

Are leggings a problem in schools? No, not in the manner people see them as. The problem isn’t that leggings are too revealing and sexual, it’s the people who perceive them as such. If a boy was to go to school with leggings and shorts barely anyone would care. The problem isn’t that the leggings are the source of the boys’ distraction, it’s the boys’ adolescent minds getting stimulated by the thoughts of any growing boys. Another thing that annoys me about this whole situation is that they say distraction in two manners in the article, it states it in the article as shown ““He told us we were being distracting to the male students,” Colussi said.” Which this definition of distraction coveys the highly known “fact” that boys are easily distracted …show more content…

On the other side of the definition which is also stated in the article is as follows “Liebow contends that the word “distracting” was not aimed at male students and did not carry a “sexual connotation,” but was meant in a more general sense. “I think they are misinterpreting the word ‘distraction’ and drawing a conclusion that isn’t necessarily what’s meant,” the superintendent said. The boys were sent from the room because they were being loud and disrespectful when Conrad began talking about leggings, Liebow said.” I fully agree that boys may and are rude and disrespectful about how women and anybody dresses due to the social ranking in school, which again is another topic altogether, and can lead to a high amount of disrespect for anybody dressing in a way that most people have deemed as “sexual”. The entire situation in general isn’t about that the leggings are “sexual” and “distracting” it’s about that the minds that view them as such have been inculcated to believe that those things are things to be excited and/or be sexually stimulated by and while the older group of people, adults, may not be excited by the sight, but have seen enough propaganda deeming those sorts of things as sexual to the younger audience that they would rather take the easier way of banning them all at once then dealing with it the way they should and I could very well see why they would take the easier route as this generation is extremely stubborn about changing their way of thinking which is time consuming, but the more appropriate solution to the problem. For now we may only hope that young men and other people alike take their dignity to heart and not sexualize the usage of leggings and demean women to nothing but objects of
