Every organization requires effective followership and leadership to reach peak performance. Effective followers use creativity, intrinsic motivations, and commitment to the organization to ensure its success. In addition, great followers need great leaders to guide them and build them into future leaders. Great leaders understand the importance of various followership styles and traits and use them to benefit the organization while helping followers achieve greatness as well. Futhermore, great followers and leaders strive to continually build on their strengths and weaknesses. With that in mind, strengths and areas of improvement will be discussed in the following paragraphs. Followership Assessment Doing what is asked without the need to be mircromagned is an exhibited skill. However, after taking the General Federation of Women’s Club (GFWC) Florida’s “Identifying Your Followership Style” assessment, some areas of personal strength and areas of improvement were uncovered (Pelletier, n.d.). In a quality management career field, it is important to have exemplary followers. Exhibited personal strengths are classified as exemplary followership due to strengths being self-motivation, critical thinking, independent thinking, focus, and commitment to the organization (Bjugstad et. al, 2006). Areas of improvement are using creativity, contributing to the team at a high level when not in a leadership role, and lack of enthusiasm that helps energize the team (Pelletier, n.d.). According to the “How Creative Are You?” assessment, personal creativity is on the low end of the average score for creative people (Uzzi, n.d.). Section 1 delved into followership and leadership styles and traits. In addition, Section 1 discussed the relationship between followership and leadership. Section 2 discussed the followership and leadership expectations in Business Quality Management. Section 3 identified the followership and leadership development plan required to cultivate strengths and build improvement areas. Finally, a five-year plan detailing continuous improvement methods was included to ensure growth towards becoming an expert in Business Quality Management.
