Can an island full of kids led by kids with no adults, survive and succeed in society? In the book Lord of the Flies by William Golding, a plane full of British school kids crash lands in the water near an abandoned island. The four main characters in the book are, Ralph, the fair-haired less intelligent boy, Simon, the sweet, kind and feminine boy, Jack, the aggressive, bloodthirsty leader of the hunters, and last, Piggy, the less attractive but smart intelligent boy. Throughout the story the boy's face adversity and problems as such as death, illness, hunger, and even feuds between each other. The boys will need leadership in order to survive, will the groups they make and the problems they face, break them or make them stronger. It shows that in life you will need leaders to proceed successfully. A leader is supposed to run everything as smooth as possible. There are good and bad leaders, but everyone has their own criteria in which they evaluate those in power. Ralph the blonde, fair-haired boy is the leader from the beginning, although he has looks, he lacked leadership skills such as intelligence and prioritizing tasks. For instance, in the beginning, Ralph chose to get naked, run around and swim instead of communicating with Piggy and coming up with a plan to survive. Throughout the beginning of the book, they all obey Ralph’s command when enforced. Even though he gained leadership skills, the society of boys, Bigguns, slowly side with Jack’s bloodthirsty group of savages. Jack, an aggressive older boy who is out to prove his manhood, fights to be leader against Ralph; although the group votes for Ralph, Jack is persistent and doesn't give up the role of a leader.
