Law Abiding Citizen is a movie about the justice system and its flaws like how a murderer can walk free even though he had killed and/or raped someone. In this movie Clarence Darby Rapes and Kills Clyde Shelton’s wife and Daughter after Tying Clyde up which sent him into a craze for 10 years where he planned how and when and where he was going to kill everyone who let Clarence Darby walk free. Then after he is ready to go he kidnaps the lawyer that defended Clarence Darby and keeps him in a hole underground with enough oxygen, then he put a different chemical in Rupert Ames’ Lethal injection which forced him to seize and go through unfathomable pain while being killed. While he is in jail he makes a deal to get a T-bone Steak for the location of the Clarence’s attorney And he gets his steak but not in enough time and then the Attorney runs out of oxygen and suffocates to death. While they are gone investigating Clyde retrieves the bone out of the steak and stabs his cellmate in the neck with said bone and gets transferred to solitary confinement. He then kills the judge through her phone, and sets off car bombs killing several more people. He then kills another lawyer using a modified EOD bot. He then attempts to kill the mayor of the town and he was outsmarted by Nick Rice because they found the bomb and planted it into his cell and when Clyde called the phone bomb he called it under his bed and the bomb exploded killing him and ending his reign of terror. Clyde was able to get out of prison and come back in as he pleased which means he was able to plant bombs and kill people while everyone thought he was in prison, but that was not the case since no one was checking on him because he was in solitary confinement. Clyde had disguises to get through the city without being spotted, but Nick found out that Clyde had bought a car garage across the street from the prison and that is where his tunnel had started and led to the solitary confinement cells and that is where he stored his explosives and his disguises. Reading newspapers or watching TV at home, at least we find one article or news describing a killing, a shooting, or an armed robbery. With all these problems, we are in fear but cannot avoid hearing and dealing with them. They happen every day and some time justice system blunders and leads to wrongly convict people for what they do not commit. This is reality of wrecked system that is resulted by injustice and corruption. Ultimately, Errol Morris confirms this reality based on a true story of an innocent convicted Randal Adams for a criminal case by creating a film, The Thin Blue Line. David Harris, an important accuser, claims Adams was a murderer and shot Robert Wood, a Dallas police officer. With Morris’ suspicion of Adams’ innocence, he turns himself to be a detective movie director and investigates the criminal case that occurred in Dallas, Texas in 1976. His goal is to show that Adams was wrongly convicted and justice system was flawed. By using juxtaposition and recreations, Morris successfully contrasts Adams and Harris to show that Adams is innocent and Harris is guilty, intensifies distrust of the legality in Adams’ wrong conviction to prove a flawed legal system, and evinces the eye witnesses are discreditable.

Clyde loved and named his guns, and regarded them as tokens of his power. At the age of sixteen, Clyde dropped out of school to work at Proctor and Gamble. Clyde’s crime streak started with helping his brother steal a small flock of turkeys and transporting them to Dallas to sell for Christmas money. Dallas officers saw the back seat full of live fowl, and pulled them over, arresting them both. His brother claimed full responsibility, and they let Clyde go since he was so small and innocent looking.
The portrayal of the justice system in this movie is unmistakably accurate; however, the downfall of the system comes when a victim wrongly identifies Mr. Balestrero as the robber. This human error sends the detectives down a slippery slope, where they forcibly find evidence against Mr. Balestrero and ultimately detain him on shallow grounds. Thankfully, the real culprit was found before Mr. Balestrero’s trial came to an end, but nevertheless, the impact a situation like this has on a person, is devastating, and most notably seen with Mrs. Balestrero. In the article, Debrabander describes real events in the article that strongly supports the article’s argument and persuades the audience towards his point of view. For example, Debrander starts out the article by explaining the Dunn-Davis case, which was about a man, named Michael Dunn, who decided to “open fire into a car full of black teenagers in a convenience store parking lot” when the teenagers refused to lower the, as Dunn called it, “thug music” (Debrander 1). Society has many different views on crime and punishment. During earlier times, the crime fit the punishment meaning an “eye for an eye” approach. If a thief was caught, their hands would be cut off. If a man killed another man, they would be killed as well. They did not have a chance to tell their side of the story, if people thought they were guilty, they were. Much has changed in the way we handle crime in the world today. In today’s world, when a person commits a crime they have rights to a fair trial and have the luxury of the Fifth Amendment. Now when a killer kills someone they get to tell their side of the story and have to be proven guilty. However, it does not matter where you go, if there are people then there will always be crime.
As a result of the recent rise of the use of excessive force cases against police and law enforcement, I have chosen to research the definition of that excessive force. When is it considered justifiable? What training do officers receive? What liability issues are there? In an ABC news article, Sascha Segan states there is no specific definition of excessive force. A part of everyday police work is to subdue criminal and suspects. Another everyday task of police officers is personal discretion - making the right decision based on the specific situation. It has been documented in multiple viral videos that law enforcement officer’s discretion is not always favorable in the public eye and is quick to be judged. Ethics has numerous meaning to it. It is not something that one can place a single definition on. Not only is it near impossible to have a definition for this word. It is also hard for any two people have the same specific definition for this word. Ethics ultimately means someone’s moral and logical thought process on what is morally right and wrong. Though, many people might feel that ethics can have a specific definition, ultimately this term is a word that is going to be defined on an individual bases.
Ethics play a huge role in a police officers line of work. Since police are given such a high degree of trust and authority, it can unfortunately be very easy for an officer to fall into some unethical behavior. This can range from just minor acts that are frowned upon, to actual downright illegal activity. Even though there are a countless number of acts and behaviors that can be considered unethical, in the following paper I will focus primarily on those incidents involving police officers who steal for their own personal gain, and discuss my position on the issue.

The community policing philosophy itself encouraged individual agencies to strategically adapt the notion of community policing to meet their own circumstances, it is not meant to be applied monolithically to all law enforcement agencies (Schieder, Chapman and Schapiro, 2009, p. 696). Therefore, no one community policing project looks the same from one jurisdiction to another and from state to state. Community policing also encourages partnerships with anyone who has a stake in the public safety problems (p. 697). This may include local businesses, social service agencies and the school districts. Hence, law enforcement must have established a working relationship with all its members in the community; because the common aim of community policing is to bridge distance between them (Terpstra, 2011, p. 88).According to Lima (2010), law enforcement should reach out to every group that is forming their operational environment, so as to reassure them that they care about their safety (p. 13). This is done through the discovery and elimination of biases, prejudices, and barriers that impede the ability to deal with cultural differences in the community (Coderoni, 2002, p. 16). Decatur Illinois police department has worked with its community members in bridging that gap and eliminating barriers. Together, they have identified and addressed areas that are in need of heightened patrolling. Although crime has not been eliminated, community policing has certainly impacted the outcome. This paper investigated the community policing policies and procedures of the Decatur Police Department. It also presented the plans, future goals and diversity considerations of the program.
