Laptops vs. Tablets As you are transitioning from high school to college you are faced with many arduous decisions. One of these dilemmas would be choosing what kind of technology you want to use at school: a laptop or a tablet. My opinion for you, as a high school student transitioning to college, would be to choose a laptop because they are superior to tablets in many ways. Imagine yourself in a college classroom writing an essay or making a power-point on your tablet. Suddenly, you attempt to save the assignment, and you get a notification that says you do not have any storage left to save the work you have slaved over to get finished. The average tablet starts off by offering 16 GB of storage capacity or more. This storage is easily consumed by apps like Word, Excel, and Power-Point or pictures. With the storage being scarce, it makes it difficult to rely on saving your documents. If you choose a tablet to use for school, then you are always in a constant threat of being in the catastrophic scenario of running out of storage capacity. Tablets are touchscreen, therefore they do not have a built-in keyboard. Without a built-in keyboard, tablets make it difficult to do hardcore research, take notes, and write essays, because not everything is compatible with mobile devices. Tablets were not built to do school assignments on. They were built for entertainment purposes such as games, small Internet use, and watching T.V. shows, videos, or movies. The final reason I prefer laptops over tablets is because of the cost. As an upcoming college student, you are going to experience the obstacle of being broke all the time. By purchasing a laptop, you are saving a ton of money. The price of laptops usually starts around 200 dollars and inclines depending on what brand you purchase and how much storage you need. When you purchase a laptop with a high storage capacity, you are practically buying more storage for free. In contrast, tablets are very expensive. By purchasing a tablet, you are wasting your money that could be going towards your books or other necessities for college. The prices of a tablet depend on how much storage you think you are going to need for school. The usual starting price for a laptop with 16 GB, depending on the brand, is 500 dollars.
