1. To me Kurt Warner through his actions and behaviors sits in the competent manager quadrant. The definition of a person who is a competent manager is someone who is good at building teams and getting results through others. (Huges, Ginnett, Curphy p. 90 2009) Kurt Warner does just that on many occasions. First I want to look at Kurt Warner during his time at camp with the St. Louis Rams. The Rams coaching staff specifically the offensive coordinator and the head coach saw something special in Warner. They just had to test him to make sure that he was what they wanted. In the movie Kurt Warner is shown to be both a coach and a mentor. When Warner was with the cardinals he took Larry Fitzgerald under his wing and mentored him. During a game Fitzgerald wanted Warner to through him the ball one more time so he could get over a hundred yards for the game. Warner told him he would try, but Fitzgerald should be more worried about the well being of the team than him. This is a very mature thing to say to someone. Fitzgerald says after this meeting that he really gained more respect for Warner and then on after would go to him with problems. Warner assumes the more coaching role when he was at the Giants and came in relief for Eli Manning and turned the game around. After the game Warner said he never wanted the Giants to put him in relief again, because the team should be concerned with building up Manning as their franchise quarterback. Even though Warner was not technically a coach, this was a move a coach would do. Warner was more concerned with the big picture and the future of the franchise. Warner being both a coach and a mentor was very effective. He not only was working with entire teams and groups of people, but he took time to focus on the individuals and care for
