The Hunger Games, an adventurous story about a young girl named Katniss, requires the hero to overcome many excruciating challenges. In the beginning of the story, Katniss has to leave her younger sister Prim behind in order to fight in the Hunger Games; this is a very heartbreaking challenge for Katniss. Katniss also is striving to understand her fellow teammate from District 12; is he in love with her or is he trying to soften her up so that he can attack her in the Hunger Games. She is also faced with the challenge of deciding if she is in love with Gale back home, or is she starting to fall for her fellow teammate Peeta Mellark. Katniss must figure out what she is going to do and how to overcome these challenges. In order to protect Prim, Katniss has to leave her and her mother behind to fight in the Hunger Games. Katniss is very worried about her sister, and talks to the district’s baker Mr. Mellark about making sure her little sister doesn’t go hungry. She also has a discussion with her mother telling her that she must be there for Prim and she must take good care of her. Gale, Katniss’ best friend, reassures her that he will also help keep Prim feed. She thinks that he is just trying to soften her up so that he can turn on her in the Hunger Games and kill her. Peeta has always been pleasant to Katniss since the reaping, and he was even boasting to Haymitch how substantial of a hunter that Katniss was, but they had just met for the first time for real. Also at the talkshow Peeta publicizes that he likes Katniss in front of all of Panem; this makes Katniss puzzle over if he’s just trying to please the crowd or he really does like her.
