Keith should be concerned about the payment because it’s against the law which makes it illegal rather than a major ethical issue. In future, if such payments are discovered during the audit process, the trust of the stakeholders will be breached and it might result in huge penalty. After reviewing several ethical theories, it can be said that the laws prohibiting payments contributing to corruption are based on No consequential theory - Kant’s Categorical Imperative. The theory states that we should always act in a way that is based on reason, duty, and would be considered ethical if everyone acted in the exact same way (Hurrell, 1990). As the theory requires a divine command to be successful, the law structure of the country acts as a command.
