A tragic hero is the protagonist is neither virtuous nor evil, and is of high estate. John Proctor was framer around the town Salem in the play in Arthur Miller’s The Crucible. John Proctor’s tragic flaw or hubris was his pride which cost characters their lives to protect their image in the town. Procter's pride keep him and his family from going to church because he did not agree with Reverend Parris's preaching methods. The town was ran by the church's rules make attending the church mandatory. Proctors pride hurt his and his family's reputation because he could not except Parris’s peaching methods.Proctor is a tragic hero because of his hubris he is not too evil nor to good and he’s punished and his punishment was greater than what he deserved

Proctor refused to tell about his affair till it would help his interest and his family. He also tried to make thing right with his wife and tried to make another trusting relationship by pushing away and forgetting about Abigail. John would push her away as he did here “give me a word John a soft word no no Abby that’s all Done” (Miller pg14). He was trying to do the right thing ,but still never told about abby till it was too late. People should recognize that mistake happen but how you handle the mistake define what type of person you are.

John Proctor had a heavy penalty for his actions or lack of actions. He was hanged for not signing a confession saying he was a witch. If Proctor did not know his consequences for not ending the trial when they began. He shows people to always tell the truth even if it the hard thing to do because there is allow worse consequences for the wrong actions. Doing so he died leaving the family to fend for themselves while elizabeth is sick and pregnant. Elizabeth would most likely not survive her next pregnancy leaving the kid alone to provide for
