The idea of racism and ethnic discrimination needs to change. In this speech, John F. Kennedy is saying that a country that calls itself free, even in their constitution, is not actually completely free. Kennedy also talks about how we can say to the world "We are a free country!", excluding the Negroes. Also, Kennedy voices how we can "Preach freedom around the world" and then turn around and support acts of slavery and discrimination, acting like it does not exist. The idea of this discrimination needs to change in order to become a truly free country. Even though we can as a country say we are a free, egalitarian country, the citizens of the country may not articulate that.
Two great men who stood their ground and fought for what they believed in gave two incredible speeches in the 1960s that may have changed America forever. These two men had no idea what this country would accomplish after these great addresses. John F. Kennedy and Martin Luther king’s speeches to the nation appeal to emotions, call action to different audiences, and have differing opinions on the nation that make them comparable but not completely different.
On October 22, 1962, President John F. Kennedy reached out to America and the Cubans with his Cuban Missile Crisis Address to the Nation. During this time, the Cold War had occupied several countries of world. This war resulted from tensions, military and political, between Russia and its allies and America, its allies, and the Western Hemisphere. When President Kennedy gave his speech, Russia had occupied Cuba and began building military bases that contained nuclear warheads and other deadly missiles. People of America saw this as a threat to the freedom of the U.S. and the Western Hemisphere. In a time of great tension and fear, President Kennedy delivered his spectacular and reassuring speech that appealed to the citizens of American in several ways.
He talks about how the emancipation is very important to us African Americans, but to other white people it was just a speech because it did not really involve them, so they really just did not care because it was not their history. As Americans, I feel we share the same history because it was just not the blacks that got everything passed for them, but it was also the whites because we all played a separate part with it. When issues like this come up I just look back on the elections of my president Obama. Every one said that us as African Americans we got him into office both times, but if the whole black population would of voted just for Obama he would not have won.... ...

The timeliness of his argument gave the speech a lot more meaning, and it heightened the emotions of many who heard the address. He is appealing to the emotions of many American people, both Congressmen and ordinary citizens, to encourage them to support his cause. He reminds us of all of the Americans around the world that are risking their lives for our freedom. Lots of things were happening in 1960 with John F. Kennedy was to be the president of the United States of America. America is going through a period of where they are scared and worried about what is going on in the world around them. They needed a strong leader to turn them around and get them back on top. John F. Kennedy gave them just what they need to hear with his inauguration address. He spoke of helping others, working together and protecting are freedom at all cost. It was exactly what the citizens of the United States needed to hear at exact moment.
At that time, the nation was experiencing major segregation and discrimination for the black community. RFK uses direct address as he claims, “For those who are black and who are tempted to fill with(...) hatred and mistrust of the injustice of such an act, against all white people”. Kennedy speaks of the division of the nation and how justice can be restored when division is no longer existent. He uses direct address in a way that he directs his message to the african american public in order to get their attention. He also uses pathos to get empathy for those who receive injustice from others of a different color. Kennedy continues to question the acts of the United States as he points out the difficult situation and how working in a divided manner can not fix any issues. The presidential candidate says, “In this difficult time for the United States, it perhaps well to ask what kind of nation we are and what direction we want to move in”. RFK uses direction, in a way that he calls out every member of the nation. He does not call out a specific race or color, he calls out an entire nation, since everybody is part of it, regardless of their color, religion, and/or ethnicity. RFK continues to establish the relationship between the african american community and the death of MLK as he states, “Black people amongst blacks, and white amongst whites, filled with hatred toward each other. Today freedom is something that we are born with, but what have the leaders of the United States gone through to ensure this freedom, and garenteing it for future generations? Both Roosevelt's “Four Freedoms” speech and Kennedy’s Inaugural Address how to ensure America’s freedom. However Roosevelt’s speech focuses on how we should be involved in aiding in the war, whereas Kennedy’s speech indicates that we should negotiating with the enemy to prevent the war.
