Tiberius Sempronius Gracchus was born in approximately 163 B.C.E to Tiberius Gracchus the Elder and Cornelia Africana. Gaius Gracchus, his younger brother, was born in 154 B.C.E. In the 2nd century B.C., the two brothers formed “The Gracchi”. The two, born plebeians, belonged to one of the most influential families in Rome, the Sempronia. Their father was the tribune of the plebs, the praetor, consul and censor. Fatherless from a young age, they were taught democratic views by tutors. As they grew older and gained influence, their goal became to restructure Rome in a way that benefited the underprivileged and unfortunate. At the time, their help was especially welcome as members of the Populare, a political group whose purpose was to serve the people, rather than the aristocracy (like the Optimates). The ideals of the Gracchi leaned towards what people today would call populism or socialism; in fact, they are almost reverently called “the founding fathers” (Fife 1) of the aforementioned political parties. The brothers were perhaps so interested in restoring the rights of the people because of the dichotomy of their plebeian births within a noble line.
Citlalli is a 16-year-old Junior at Olathe East High school. She has a group of friends that she hangs out with during Hawk Hour. Citlalli’s favorite teacher is Mrs. Rippee who was her English teacher in ninth grade. She participates in NHS and Science Olympiad at school along with her friends. She has a pet leopard gecko named Chamomile because that is her favorite tea. Her favorite colors are light blue, green, and gray but she prefers dark green the most. She loves everything o do with nature and likes to incorporate it into her paintings. Citlalli can be quiet at times but also loves to be loud and talk.
Grandin was born in Boston Massachusetts. Grandin was diagnosed with autism in 1949 at the age of two; she was said to have brain damage and placed early in nursery school. Dr. Mary Temple Grandin was a college professor of Animal Sciences at Colorado State University (Temple Grandin, n.d.). She has influenced my life the most through Livestock Behavior, Design of Facilities, and Humane Slaughter (Dr. Temple Grandin's Web Page , n.d.).
Takashi Murakami is an incredible, talented Japanese artist whose modern artwork has attracted even the biggest names in the industry for collaborations, such as Kanye West and Louis Vuitton. Although Murakami does not think of his artwork as Pop Art, his work does have a Pop Art feel to it. To people without the knowledge of history behind his work, they will think that his work is happy and colorful, but behind the bright colors and the happy caricatures, Murakami tells a story that was inspired by the struggles of discriminated people.
Victor Chang was “an outstanding surgeon and an outstanding thinker - a very original thinker” as said by the chairman of the Heart-Lung Institute at St Vincent’s. For those of you who have no idea of who he is, he basically began the modern era of heart transplantation.

During the deepest and longest-lasting economic downturn in history, which sent Wall Street into a panic and wiped out millions of investors, the Great Depression, Warren Buffet was buying and selling his first stocks. Amid the difficult times, Warren Buffett became one of the greatest investors ever and is regularly ranked among the wealthiest people in the world with a net-worth of 66.7 billion dollars (“History”).
“The probability of a person being born with dwarfism is about 1 in 20,000,” says Maestro, “so the Yangsi village is a clear statistical anomaly if it turns out that there are no other external factors at play.” In the Sichuan province of southwestern China, a village is perched high in the mountains, with 40% of its residents being dwarves; the tallest being 3 feet 10 inches, and the shortest being 2 feet 1 inch. Yangsi has only 80 residents as of 2018, however, 36 of them have achondroplasia. Seeing as the reason for the rare defect is still unknown, the dwarf village of Yangsi is consequently a largely confusing unsolved mystery.
We analyzed the market for two weeks to determine when the equity market would turn from a bearish to bullish market. Without a change in the market and a declining bond price, we decided to invest in equities according to our investment strategy, which brought us into the second phase of our portfolio. Therefore, at the beginning of February we bought shares in Sirius, Microsoft, Neon, Washington Mutual, and Nike. As assumed, the equity market continued to plummet decreasing the value of all our stocks except for our Gold Corporation stock.
I became an enthusiast of finance ever since I was at high school. At the political economy class, my teacher asked us: if you have a million RMB, how would you use it? She then introduced us the concept of investment, and I was intrigued specifically by the stock. For the latter two years of my high school, I have been reading books and articles regarding the stock market in the U.S. and in China. As one of the outstanding students ranked top 1% in College Entrance Exam in Hainan Province, China, I was accepted by the City University of Hong Kong with a full scholarship. With the strong interest in finance, I chose quantitative finance and risk management as my major.
Finance is a field that had always fascinated me right from my undergraduate college days. What make me interested in this particular field of study are the art of finance and the complexity of investment market which would allow me to employ my personal skills, such as analytical and communication skills, along with my personal characteristics such as dedication and compassion for what I do. As one of the most important sector in the world, I believe it would provide me with a broad range of career options.
