The quality of life is assumed by an individual's way of life. “Quality of life is all about and finding a happy balance between work and friends and family” (Philip Green). It can destroy one’s way of thought, or even be a complimenting type of environment. Demonstrated in the short story the Japanese Quince, life a be hard to discover and achieve. Wanting to change to pursue a new humanity, can be a challenge goal to step forward with. The Japanese Quince written by John Galsworthy develops the idea that in order to have a rewarding and acceptable life one must be confident and have the ability to take risk that need to be taken and leave the past, without worry about any consequences.

Mr. Nilson a businessman in his late 40’s demonstrates the signs of order, professionalism and routine described by the author. He is described to have a “sweetish sensation in his throat”. This sensation at the back of his throat are the symptoms that lead to “choking” at the end of the Japanese Quince. The spring morning is full of different types of scents and some can trigger taste buds, but the reader can see that, as he doesn't break his shell and still feels this sensation this is from the coupled of his emotional needs. The strange taste seems stronger and seems as an important part due to the fact that is doesn't often occur to him. When, Mr.Nilson feels “emptiness in his chest” and “just below his fifth rib” this can easily be seen as an emotional need. Mr. nilson has a huge distance from relationships and communications with others. this is lacked due to the fact that he has to follow his orderly routine and would like to continue that due to his professionalism described at the start due to his well known in the City.
