Islam: John's Influence On The People Of Jerusalem

Muslims understand authority as it was expressed by Allah to Muhammad through the angel Gabriel. Because of his paramount role in transferring the word of Allah to his people, it is apparent that Muhammad is the source of authority for Islam. Christians understand authority from the “inspirations” God bestowed upon John the Baptist. I argue that the foundation of Christianity was built on the timing of John’s gospel about Jesus and his influence on the people of Jerusalem.
In order to understand where authority resides in Islam, it is important to recognize that Muslims believe the Quran is the word of Allah and that, “There is no god except Allah. and Allah. He is indeed the Exalted in Power, the Wise” (Surah 3). According to the Quran, Allah claims it to be the indisputable source of judgement over man. These affirmations are made clear within its scripture: “This Qur’an is not such as can be produced by [anyone] other than Allah, on the contrary it is a confirmation of (revelations) that were sent before it, and a full explanation of the book, wherein there is not doubt from the Lord of the worlds”. His inspired knowledge and prophecies about Jesus made many believers of Christianity. The Gospel of Mark provides supporting evidence of John’s actions and influence: “And so John the Baptist appeared in the wilderness, preaching a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. The whole Judean countryside and all the people of Jerusalem went out to him. Confessing their sins, they were baptized by him in the Jordan River” (Mark 1:3-5). John was a very important figure.
