I found that this assignment was the most difficult throughout all of the assignment I have been given on this course because of the fact that we had to base our work on a style of an auteur director. I found this a difficulty because of that fact that I felt it was restricting how the project could be filmed, that on top of the fact that I struggle to work alone when it comes to a project that consists of making a short film by myself made this assignment prove difficult. At first, I was working on my own project. The premise of my project was to produce a short four minute film based off of the style of Edgar Wright's films. The unfinished plot of the film consisted of the main character being invited to a party by their friends, with the party being the introduction of the …show more content…
We decided that we would base the style of the film off of the director my group partner chose, Wes Anderson. Fortunately, my group partner didn't have the same problem that I had with my own project, that problem being that I was unable to acquire actors for the project. Having an actor for our project proved to be a huge benefit to us because of the fact we weren't using someone from our class as the main character of the film, it also add an extra layer of professionalism to our project as it represents the fact that we're trying to produce the best project we can. When it came to editing the short film, I didn't personally find it too difficult, syncing audio wasn't a challenge. Most likely the most challenging part of editing the project was finding the appropriate colour correction for the film, this was important because of the fact that our film is based off of the style of Wes Anderson, a director know for the vibrant and frequently warm colours added to his
The motion picture I selected to analyze is Relatos Salvajes (Wild Tales) an Argentinian movie, directed and edited by Damián Szifrón and Pablo Barbieri. Wild Tales is dark, comedy with a series of realistic events that turn unpredictable. This film displays six different segments and six different story lines with a variety of actors. I believe that the best edited segment is the “Road to Hell” segment. The “Road to Hell” story line is about two male drivers, where their road rage becomes deadly. This analysis will go over how Szifron and Barbieri used certain shot angles, sound, and music to intensify and bring the story together. In the “Road to Hell” segment the director does not include the character’s name, for analysis purposes I will refer to the first character as Carlos and the second character as Pete.
Now that we have a script, and we'll cut out the process of submitting it to movie studios, the next step would be pre-production. For this purpose, we'll use a fictional studio and call it L 0 L studios. This studio, after accepting the script, would hire a producer. Let's use a name here, like Richard Donner. His job is to hire a director, audition a cast, find a location to film, or decide if it can be done on a sound stage (possibly both), and try to keep it all under budget. Our director would be James Cameron, because with his success recently, his name alone would bring people to see this movie, which is the whole goal of the project. Casting is difficult, because certain factors have to be looked at, such as looks, (do they look the part?
Hundreds of movies are released every year. Filmmakers try to create the next jaw-dropping movie that audiences will stand in line for hours and pay top dollar to see. The key to success is finding ideas that appeal to a mass audience. Viewers are the lifeline of any production company so making something for everyone is a savvy business move for the film industry. To cover all bases, there are over fourteen different genres of movies. Film making is not a solo effort. It is a collaboration between the actors, directors, producers and other key contributors. This combined effort or mise-en-scene includes all the elements of the film to include actors, backdrops, costumes, props and lighting used to meet the director’s vision (Goodykoontz & Jacobs, 2011, Sec 3.2). This paper will discuss the elements of a movie clip entitled “You Can’t Handle the Truth” from the movie A Few Good Men.
use of the camera the sound and the mise en scene. I will analyze the
Then the question is posed to Mr. Lockwood, "How did it all begin?" The answering of this question is what my paper will explain. I will attempt to break down the opening scene and show how it all started. By using tools of film such as sound, editing, mise en scene, and cinematography, this paper will show how the scene was made as well. Mise en scene played an important role in this movie as with any other movie.
In the world of cinema, a director can either be a tool to create a film without ever being seen or heard by the audience or they can put their “stamp” on the movie so that the audience immediately knows who directed the film. The latter of these types of directors is called an auteur. The director whose style and creativity is evident and repetitive in their films is what Francois Truffaut, the film critic who established the theory, would call an auteur (Boda &Pendleton-Thompson). Two such auteurs whose films were shown in class this semester include the legendary French director Jean-Luc Godard who directed Vivre Sa Vie (1962) and the American director of Upstream Color (2013), Shane Carruth. Though these directors are acclaimed as auteurs
Analyze a film shot or scene to explain how filmmakers use cinematic techniques to tell a story, develop characters, create atmosphere, and evoke emotions.
Think about your favorite movie. When watching that movie, was there anything about the style of the movie that makes it your favorite? Have you ever thought about why that movie is just so darn good? The answer is because of the the Auteur. An Auteur is the artists behind the movie. They have and individual style and control over all elements of production, which make their movies exclusively unique. If you could put a finger on who the director of a movie is without even seeing the whole film, then the person that made the movie is most likely an auteur director. They have a unique stamp on each of their movies. This essay will be covering Martin Scorsese, you will soon find out that he is one of the best auteur directors in the film industry. This paper will include, but is not limited to two of his movies, Good Fellas, and The Wolf of Wall Street. We will also cover the details on what makes Martin Scorsese's movies unique, such as the common themes, recurring motifs, and filming practices found in their work. Then on
With many different genres and types of filmmaking, it can result in a large variety of stories and conflicts. Nevertheless, film has always brought people together as a society. If there is one thing everyone can notice about films is the achievement in style and directing. The three directors talked about in this paper are the most successful at delivering a breathtaking style and direction to their films. Baz Luhrmann, Wes Anderson, and Martin Scorsese have produced and directed films over decades and each film as impacted not only the United States but worldwide. With the unmistakable trademarks that each director has, it is very easy to feel sucked into the world in which they are shaping around you and the story. Because of these three directors, the film world and industry has been revolutionized for many centuries to come.
Film techniques are used extremely effectively in Strictly Ballroom by the director Baz Luhrman. Costume and makeup, camera angles and lighting and also character behaviours were used to influence the portrayal and development of all of the main characters. Without these film techniques, Strictly Ballroom could not have been made into a film as entertaining as it is and the characters personalities and development would not have been portrayed.

Coming from a Multimedia background, I am incredibly passionate about filming and editing. From an early age, I always loved playing around with cameras, filming as well as editing just anything that I enjoyed watching on TV, or even something filmed by myself. Being so passionate about film and editing have led me to doing my Bachelor of Creative Arts Honours. My goal for this year is to come up with 2 horror short films where I can showcase my skills in both filming and editing, as well as my creative thinking. I was inspired by Blumhouse Productions to come up with my own horror film where I can integrate interactivity within my film.
