Most might think that cheating is a part of school, everyone does it and it’s not a big deal. While you might believe this too, the truth is, cheating can affect people tremendously. Cheating at high schools around the U.S., along with our school, Point Loma High, is increasing rapidly. In a survey given to high school students in 2006 and in 2008, 4% more of students from 2008 said they have cheated on a test (Eddy Ramirez, Cheating on the Rise Among High School Students, Josephson Institute, Dec. 2, 2008). When a student witnesses another student successfully getting away with academic dishonesty, they beginning to question the education system's ability to catch these acts and if it is worth working hard themselves when they can just do the same. Jeff Jackson, interviewed in the article “How Will Cheating in School Affect the Rest of Your Life?”, says that “You might begin question why you put forth full effort while others simply cheat and achieve the same academic accomplishments... you might even decide to cheat as well, because you see how much easier it is,” (Demand Media, No Date).
