Summary This article presents how North American youth who consume two or more tobacco products in the past 30 days are at higher risk of experimenting with alcohol and other drugs, such as, cocaine, heroin, marijuana, ecstasy and prescription drugs. Those who consume one or no tobacco products in the span of 30 days are much less likely to try or even get addicted to other drugs and alcohol. Finding intervention plans and applying them to schools and community centers where youth spend the most time is one of the top priorities.

Starting from understanding the root of why teenagers consume to creating and agreeing to a program with the child. The SCC could also keep a progress report up to date with the client to ensure that everything is going smoothly and on track. Protecting the vulnerable and knowing the current issues in society can also impact how well an SCC is doing in their field. Additionally, an SCC needs to create a connection on a personal level with their client. For example, being non-judgmental, demonstrating courage, and being comfortable and confident in front of them. It will make the client feel more secure and open. All these strategies are important to use in everyday life and not just for those who are going through a negative time. We cannot take the easy way out by making their decisions. They are capable of knowing what they think is best for them. If anything, an SCC could always compromise with the client so that there can be a win-win situation.
