Of the several theories we have discussed involving commitment, I have taken a particular interest in M.P. Johnson’s Theory of Commitment as I feel it very effectively dissects the primary drives that reside behind one’s desire, or lack thereof, to remain committed in a relationship. In his theory, Johnson describes three kinds of perceived commitment that ultimately lead one to the decision to stay in their relationship. These three kinds of commitment discussed are personal, moral and structural commitment (Berscheid & Regan, 2005).

The soul cannot be completely defined or described but it is the only thing we can be absolutely sure of, since all other facts are temporary. Being ourselves allows us to obtain many more answers and to understand our unconscious intentions. Humans may exceed their limited ideas by realizing that God does exists and that in Him, we will find many answers if we open ourselves to Him.
Jean Watson's Theory of Human Caring Jean Watson's "Theory of Human Caring" opens the mind to view nursing as more than just a job, but rather a connection from one person to another. As nurses it’s easy to relate one’s healing to medicine and technology, but we also need to remember that love and caring also promote inner healing. Watson’s theory has really broadened my views of nursing. As a nurse, we need to remember that our actions of caring and love towards our patients makes a difference in their healing process. Since its establishment as a profession more than a century ago, nursing has been a source for numerous debates related to its course, methods and development of nursing knowledge. Many nursing definitions and theories have evolved over time. Furthermore, it is in a constant process of being redefined.
It is important to develop a sense of what is most important to your one true self and to others around you as well. These seven habits are very important to use in our everyday lives and with practice and dedication involved, you will succeed in obtaining a more effective life. You just have to commit to make progress and improve. Even though this may be a constant battle, you have to remind yourself that these habits and practices is what will make you a more successful and valuable individual and that is what is important.
This week’s competency is no. 7 - A competent nurse practices relationship-centered care (OCNE, 2013). This week I was at the medical floor at Mercy and the client I focused on was someone with several complications, not to mention unable to speak for himself and confined to his bed. I was very interested in his profile and I thought it was my opportunity to challenge myself. Using the competency between the client and myself was difficult because of the situation, however, I was able to make a relationship-centered care with the client’s wife. The client’s wife was also the decision-maker and she’s by his side day and night. Although it seemed that the wife was difficult to work with because she basically did everything for him regardless of the physician’s orders, this did not stop me from creating a working relationship with her.
Who we are? This is the basic question to find out. What we think about ourselves, how we look at ourselves and our relationship to the world? all these things help us to examine ourselves that who we are and what we want to be?
What is a relationship? There are different types of relationships that we have. All relationships begin with interpersonal communication. Communication and interactions, which happen amid two individuals to start, build, maintain, and occasionally either end or redefine a relationship. For some, relationships are easily forged, but how far they advance and whether they endure is up to the two people communicating with one another. We all have acquaintances, but how well we communicate will determine whether we become friends or in some cases intimates.
Be yourself– we often hear that phrase as a piece of advice, whether in real life or in fictionalized accounts of human life in media such as film or books. Being one’s true self is often touted as an ideal to strive for. It is believed to be able to grant one a happy, content life, since being yourself would mean you would be free to make the right decisions in your life without complying society’s expectations – you would not need to constantly clash with your conscience. Nowadays, however, being your true self may prove a daunting task.
Environmental health explains the quality of your home, work, school, and social environment. Even the health of our planet plays a factor, air quality and availability of clean filtered water and healthy food. Also the weather and pollution, exposures to chemicals are factors playing against environment. I read an article by Lecia Bushak and she had made up many ways to help improve our environment. “Earth Day isn’t the only day you can take steps to make the environment better. In fact, it’s really easy to go green on a daily basis, and in doing so, you’ll be improving your own life” (Bushak, 2015). Following her step I will do my best to not use my car as much. I will be recycling more that’s for sure. I also will start being better about monitoring my electronics and water use in my home! These few changes will make the difference in my environmental health and I am willing to make these changes!
All of the above points apply to all relationships be it social, romantic or even family relationships.
