Title: Plastic Surgery Specific Purpose: To explain the reasons and affects of plastic surgery. Central Idea: I will present the history, process, cost, and types of plastic surgery and why people choose to do it.

I. Attention: people become really addicted to plastic surgery as if its something that they could do any time they feel like it. Some of them even go to the extreme by having more than 100 surgeries on their bodies to fulfill their fantasy desires of how a model person should look like. II. Main Point One: Before thinking negatively of plastic surgery we should learn when it was created and why.

A. According to Martin Donohoe, “ plastic surgery began more than 4000 years ago by Sushruta, the father of Indian surgery.” 1. Author Martin Donohoe says, “By 1000 AD, plastic surgery was common, due to the cruel custom of cutting off the noses and upper lips of one's enemies.”

Plastic surgery started its first training during WWI. b. 1925 Dr. Jacques Maliniac establishes the first division of plastic surgery at a public hospital. c. 1940-1949 facial trauma centers created during WWII. 2. According to Wikipedia, “Walter Yeo, a sailor injured at the Battle of Jutland, is assumed to be the first person to receive plastic surgery in 1917. B. Egypt was one of the countries that practiced plastic surgeries. 1. “Ramses II’s mummy was surgically altered by having a small bone and a handful of seeds inserted into his nose to ensure that his most prominent feature would be recognizable in the afterlife”, according to Random History.

Scholars believed that Egyptians preformed plastic surgery on the dead because a persons face should be recognizable in the after life (Random History).

II. Main Point Two: There are two types of plastic surgery reconstructive and cosmetic.

A. According to Nordqvist Christian, “The first branch is called cosmetic surgery.” 1. Goals are to improve the visual appearance of a person. 2. Some the cosmetic surgeries that are done are breast reshaping, nose lifting, and removing body fat. B. “The second branch is called reconstructive surgeries”, according to Nordqvist
