Amlodipine with brand name Norvasc™ is one of a class of drugs called Calcium Channel Blockers “CCB”
What is Norvasc used for?
Norvasc™ is used for treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure) and Angina (chest pain) and many other coronary arteries diseases.

Who should not take Norvasc?
If you are allergic to the active ingredient (Amlodipine) or the inactive ingredient DO NOT take Norvasc.

You should tell your doctor if your taking:
• simvastatin (Zocor, Simcor, Vytorin) as it causes severe interaction by slowing down the liver processing of simvastatin and cause muscle damage.
How should I take Norvasc?
Norvasc should be taken as prescribed by the physician, and should not be less or more dose than the physician has prescribed.
• Norvasc to be taken once a day either with or without food.
• It’s better to be taken at the same time every day, either with breakfast or dinner, or at bedtime and NEVER take more than one dose.
Norvasc is only one drug in a complete program that includes also diet, exercise or other medicine.
• Other medicines: Nitroglycerine can be used together with Norvasc
• If you are taking Nitroglycerine for angina, DO NOT stop while you are taking
Ace Inhibitors are used to treat hypertension and congestive heart failure (CHF). Most of the drugs that are Ace Inhibitors have the common ending –pril. It inhibits an enzyme; that decreases the tension of blood vessels and the blood volume, thus lowering blood pressure. Lotensin (benzapril) comes in tablets and is used for oral administration. It is one of the ace inhibitors that are indicated for treating hypertension. There is warning while using Lotensin when pregnant, it indicates to stop using immediately when pregnancy is detected. Vasotec (enalpril) comes in tablets and injection. It is indicated for the treatment of hypertension and is effective alone or in combination with other Ace Inhibitors agents, especially thiazide-type diuretics. There is a warning for fetal toxicity; when pregnancy is detected; stop using.
