Family is the primary social group that we acquire our beliefs, norms, and values. A person’s family helps them gain a better understanding of their identity as well as provide individuals with a sense of belonging. From a sociological perspective, family is defined as a social group whose members are bound by legal, biological, or emotional ties, or combination of all three. Our idea of what constitutes as a family varies due to our race, class status, ethnicity, and religion. Religion plays a vital role in how individuals structure their families. Religion is a cultural system of commonly shared beliefs and rituals that provides a sense of ultimate meaning and purpose by creating an idea of reality that is sacred, all-encompassing, and supernatural. …show more content…

As children grow older they begin to execute these social constructs in their sexuality and marriage.
In the process of a child developing into its own person they begin to acquire certain values and morals that come with belonging to a family. They begin to learn what is right and wrong as well as what is just and unjust. These specific values and morals are typically defined by the religious group the child’s family belongs to/associated with. Protestant Christianity is a religion that is followed by the belief in one God and his son Jesus Christ. It is the religion that majority of the Americans in the United States are a member of. While possessing the Christian beliefs, values, and morals, individuals are compelled to believe that sex before marriage is sinning therefore, individuals who sin will go to hell. Sex before marriage is socially created by the members of Christianity in efforts to do right by the lord’s word, The Bible. Growing into a young adulthood, individuals/children are afraid of pursuing their natural curiosity of being sexually active in fear they will get sent to hell after their death. These young adults become abstinent, refraining from some, or all sexual desires until marriage. This Christian value is passed down to the parents and into the influence of their children. This value compels individuals to believe that if they have sex before marriage they will not be able to create the “ideal” family
