Supervision was defined by Bernard (2005) as the realization of our supervisees that they understand the therapeutic process and themselves a tad better than when they entered supervision, and our own realization that we have been players in the professional development of another. From my little experience in the field of social work, I go to understand that giving care is an emotionally demanding work. For example, I went to see a doctor some months back and what I experienced was a paternalistic attitude. Although he was qualified to prescribe drugs and treat me however, I felt less connected with him. I had many questions I wanted to ask but my questions and opinion meant nothing to him. At first I thought his paternalistic attitude was because he was a lot older than me but I got to realize he treated everyone that way. The next time I visited the hospital, I met with another doctor but I was so scared to leave my comfort zone. On the contrary, the doctor was very friendly and wanted us to talk freely but from my past experience I had had a deep hold of me. I got to understand the meaning of intrinsic and extrinsic motivation. It is possible that the first doctor was extrinsically motivated and cared more about the remuneration. Although he carried out his duties and gave the right treatment but the bond between doctors and patient was not there. When the drive to bond is met, people are usually left with positive emotions such as love and caring attitudes. When this drive is met in the organizations such as recognition, the sense of belonging usually motivates them to perform better. If such drives are not fulfilled on the other hand, employee may be less zealous about their jobs. The drive to bond also explains why workers find it difficult to break out or transferred from a functional group due to the close relationship or bond formed with such functional groups. Social workers deal with lots of different situations which are generally emotionally demanding. Supervisions could help social worker perform their duties more efficiently. Both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation applies both to the supervisor and the supervisee. The supervisor can be motivated to carry out their duties effectively while the supervisee can be
