.2 Participatory Evaluation Evaluation is defined as systematic investigation of the worth or merit of an object (Joy, 2002). This definition centres on the goal of using evaluation for a purpose. Accordingly, evaluations should be conducted for action - related reasons, and the information provided should facilitate deciding a course of action. Therefore evaluation provides information to help improve a project. It also provides information for communicating to a variety of stakeholders including external donors of the project. It forms one of the most important parts of the project life cycle. It is the outcome of the evaluation that gives clue to recasting, planning and modification of a given project. It also gives evidence and guidance …show more content…
Initial project design strongly influences the ease with which M&E is implemented later on in the project life cycle. Strong project design makes it easier to create and align comprehensive monitoring and evaluation systems. During the planning phase, the monitoring and evaluation plan is developed, establishing the information system you put in place to track and measure project progress, performance and impact. The Design Monitoring and Evaluation plan expands on the information provided in the logical framework. Table 55: summary evaluation table. Willingness of practicing modern beekeeping. 5.2.2 Participatory evaluation methods Participatory evaluation methods including Participatory Rural Appraisal and beneficiary assessment, the followings technique were employed key informant interviews, focus group discussion, and direct observations. The participatory evaluation employed and assess the progress in work plan, implementation of planned activities , achievement of objectives, effectiveness of project, impact of project, efficiency/cost –effectiveness of project as well as sustainability of the project. For the case of beekeeping as a source of income for the Aghondi community, the key informants used were LGA official (VEO, DBO) and TFS officer while focus group discussion used for Aghondi beekeeping group (target beneficiaries to collect data and information at the same time as observation used to verify collected data and information related to project to see if the intended objective and activities are met. Based on participatory evaluation exercise the following results were
The book contains the most effective methods of completing a project within its budget, schedule, and the resource constraints. It briefly explains all the stage process of every major project goes through. From creating the plan to monitoring and evaluation, there is a lot for project managers and supervisors to learn.
Program evaluation is a skill that requires for skilled people to conduct an evaluation that is credible. My reason for taking this class was to gain the basic understanding of the program evaluation. As I became involved in the readings and class assignments I discovered a profound level of respect for this application. I uncovered that evaluations should dedicate thoughtfulness to all stakeholders who are invested in the program and affected by its evaluation. This process allows a full range of people and groups to take part in the evaluation; this is also a way to identify and develop the needs of stakeholders. Evaluation should be integrated throughout the preliminary phases of program development. A preliminary phase of the evaluation process is to define the program in-depth detail. This collective endeavor can generate a mutual understanding of the program and the evaluation process. In the environment in which I work this is an unknown process, program evaluation happens at the end of the year. In most cases, most programs are unsuccessful because of the fact of having unrealistic goals and outcomes. Evaluations can be formative and summative. Formative evaluations are conducted in the development and implementation phase of the program. This process can be beneficial because it provides with information on how to best attain the goals or make changes to the program. Summative evaluations happen when the programs are well instituted and inform on to what degree the program is attaining its outcomes and goals (Patton, 1987).

DiClemente (2013) stated, “Although no evaluation is perfect, evaluation research can have a high degree of rigor” (DiClemente, Salazar, & Crosby, 2013, pp. 298). The result of a high degree of rigor can lead to the utilization by program planners and policy experts which would in turn could impact public health policy and promotion practice (DiClemente et al., 2013). This is obtained by a step by step, all equally important, process in what is known as the “Nine Step Stairway to Effective Evaluation”.

An evaluation plan helps the participants to improve the performance and their efficiency. An effective evaluation plan would result in improved personal growth. It would also help in the development of the interactions due to the growth in social and intellectual skills. Academic institutions need to develop a quality evaluation plan that would help acquire and maintain satisfactory academic performance. Texas Southern University Campus used the Urban Academic Village evaluation plan to improve their standards.
Making an investment towards a new project/product/company is hardly a simple process. Numerous factors including costs, benefits, time, and resources need to be taken into account before a decision to pursue a new project should be ventured into. At the end of the day prioritising projects and investing funds into projects that have the most potential towards favourable return on investment should be considered. Investment appraisal should not only be used for projects with a monetary return, it is also pertinent to use the tools where the return may not be easy to quantify such as training or development programs. The name of my project is gardening which is planting sunflower. I chose this project because my kindergarten’s outdoor environment space is limited. This project involved 5 years old children. The process of growing this sunflower took about two months. The project has met the objective well. The main objective of this project was experiencing the outdoor environment by the children.
“Our plans miscarry because they have no aim. When a man does not know what harbor he is making for, no wind is the right wind” a famous quote about our goal by Seneca. It is a metaphor about the achievement goal and objectives by good planning skills. One has to plan for what one wants to achieve and where one wants to go. One of the most important things is to have good planning, before taking any project the first think you should do is to create project plan. Planning can be defined as preparing a sequence of action to achieve specific goals and objectives. According to Kerzner (2009), “project planning is desirable that the project manager is involved from project conception through execution. It must be systematic, flexible to handle, closely disciplined through reviews and control and capable of accepting multi functional inputs (pg. 412)”. The importance of planning a project is to describe the work so that it will be easily identifiable to the project team member.
Williams, (1997) identified four steps to system planning. Earl (1989) proposed five alternate strategy frameworks which project managers should consider when deciding how the system will enhance the business function. Standard business strategy methods are used to identify such opportunities by using: value chains, application searching and information analysis (Earl 1989).

The first step in any project is developing a project management oversight plan that defines expectations, outcomes, and establishes a timeline. Key organizational stakeholders and influencers are interviewed to identify the issues and concerns expected to be resolved by the project. The key issu...

Project planning falls in the Planning Process Group which consists of those processes to establish the projects total scope, define the projects objectives, and courses of action to achieve those objectives. During the planning process, all the documents that are needed to carry the project through the project lifecycle will be developed such as the project management plan. Project management requires repeated feedback loops as additional information becomes available and is better understood. The planning process delineates the strategy, tactics, and path to successfully complete the project. With that, the planning of a project must walk through all the those processes from executing, monitoring and controlling through the closing process.
When planning a new project, how the project will be managed is one of the most important factors. The importance of a managers will determine the success of the project. The success of the project will be determined by how well it is managed. Project management is referred to as the discipline that entails the processes of carefully planning, organizing, controlling, and motivating the organization resources so as to foster and facilitate the achievement of specific established and desired goals and meet the specific criteria of success required in the organization (Larson, 2014). Over the course of this paper I will be discussing and analyzing the importance of project management.
