The ethics of healthcare can be effectively summed up in one word, safety. Ethics healthcare is solely focused on protecting the rights of patients, whether that be their right make decisions for themselves, or their right to receive up to date, evidence based, medical practices, it falls into the umbrella of safety. In a healthcare setting, safety is everyone’s responsibility. As a physician assistant I hope to provide the best healthcare possible while maintaining the safety of my patients. By simply watching out for patients and staying attentive can prevent dangerous mistakes. I believe part of a physical assistant’s job is to be a provider that is really focused on their patients needs. The leadership skill I would hope to bring is that of being that person to bring the team together, ensure everyone’s thoughts are heard, and then organizing each patient’s treatment plan from there. I believe this cooperation is the key to the success of interprofessional teams and by making sure every needed discipline has a say, patients will be more satisfied, and their outcomes will be better. According to Bridges et. al., “It is important to note that poor interprofessional collaboration can have a negative impact on the quality of patient care.” By keeping everyone together, I could help prevent this. I am a firm believer in hands off management. I think staff preforms better when they are not pressured to preform under surveillance. I believe a management skill I would employ would be simply keeping everyone on task. Personally, I find it unprofessional when stiff sits idle at work, there is always something to be done! As long as the team stays on goal, and is not wasting time that they could be using to benefit patients, I do not think I would overbear. I think providers, (M.D., D.O., PA, and NP), often neglect to utilize the other clinicians at their finger tips. I personal think dietitians and physical therapists should play a bigger role than just support services and rehabilitation. According to Evans (2011), “…collaboration of varied health professionals can facilitate better health outcomes…” By accessing these resources sooner providers can generate better results and reduced reoccurrence for their patients! I believe that team based care and roles go hand in hand. Without the team based care patients care can suffer, within a team there are many roles that must work as an oiled machine and be utilized for maximum
