Why Archaeology is Important
When you look at different aspects of your life, you can see anthropology coming into play. At times, it may be easy to see how anthropology is affecting your life. At other times however, it can be quite difficult to see. Anthropology allows us to not only to be able to understand the present, but also it helps us to understand the past. There are many different subcategories of anthropology that can be helpful. Every part of anthropology, from forensic anthropology to archaeology, helps us to better understand one another.

These two subfields are prehistoric and historic archaeology. While these subfields are similar, they do vary in a major way. Prehistoric archaeology studies a time before there was a written language. This means that we have no written record of anything during that time and we must rely solely on the artifacts. Archaeologists that study this period will study a variety of different sites. This could be buildings camping areas, places where people have hunted, homes, garbage areas, and many other places where artifacts are likely to have been found. Prehistoric archaeology is important because without us finding and studying the artifacts, we would know nothing of this time before written record. Historic archaeology, like prehistoric archaeology, also studies the past, however, it studies a more recent history was there was a written language and records to go along with it. These archaeologists will often excavate different areas then the prehistoric archaeologists. They will study homes, work places, stores, buildings, slave areas, and many other places, these are places that can have a lot of artifacts, as well as a lot of different written materials that they can study and learn from. Both of these fields are very important to help us see how we are connected and to help us better understand one
