As I have particularly enjoyed studying biology and chemistry at college, I have developed an ambition to proceed with them to a more advanced level by studying for a degree in biomedical sciences or pharmacy. I believe doing so will be the most appropriate option for me. I want to study biomedical science, as the study of living things at a molecular level genuinely fascinates me and appeals to me. Also because it’s a very fast moving subject and is significant to a lot of major issues facing society, it also recognises that biomedical scientists are greatly involved in the analysis and treatment of many illnesses. Pharmacy is also another option for me as I have enjoyed maths and science and it is a subject where both can be applied. Pharmacy …show more content…
I’m currently studying btec applied science (level 3) diploma at South Tyneside College. This course covers a wide variety of topics on biology and chemistry.
In college, sessions in the laboratory have really helped me enhance my laboratory skills. Over the last two years I have learnt a lot a wide range of skills and techniques that are important when collecting and analysing data. It has helped me become independent and confident when carrying out practical’s and making my own decisions. It has also helped me apply practical’s to theory, which is a very important skill needed for university. I have gained a very strong grounding in chemistry and biology.
I am a very enthusiastic learner and have the ability to listen attentively to people as well as understand them. I also enjoy working as apart of a team, but have the confidence to be able to work independently and take responsibility of my decisions. I consider myself to be very good at communicating and interacting with people from various backgrounds. This skill is very important for pharmacists as they have to be able to communicate with their customers effectively. I am a hardworking student who always strives for the best; I believe that once you have your mind set on something you want to do, nothing can stop you from achieving your goals; it is all about hard work and determination, which I believe I have in
My knowledge from A-Level Biology and Psychology has allowed me to appreciate and understand aspects of the human anatomy and physiology and also how people interact individually and with the wider society. Studying Chemistry and Maths has been both challenging but intriguing and I have been able to adapt the skills of paying attention to detail, managing, prioritising and conducting extensive research via these courses.
My professional background includes three summers working at a credit union, and the time I have spent job shadowing, both of which are valuable. They will help me by giving me a starting point to build my professional career. Work experience is valuable because it allows me to see how things work with jobs in the “real world” and prepare me for my future after graduation. The job shadows I have done will help me decide what exactly I would like to do upon my graduation. I hope all of my ideas point you towards the same conclusion I have made: I would make a great pharmacist someday and pursuing this degree is a major step in getting there.
Out of hundreds of thousands of different jobs available in the country, the attractiveness of Anesthesiology has caught my attention. Ever since discovering the career and its rigorous requirements, I have been trying my hardest to achieve it. To become an Anesthesiologist requires dedication, responsibility and passion and I believe I acquire those assets. It requires demanding education and many years of pure dedication to have this occupation. University of Central Florida provides this requirement to become an Anesthesiologist, so I have decided to meticulously try my hardest to be admitted to this university.
I have always been inspired by the workings of chemistry and mathematics. My studies of these subjects have developed my understanding and have made me pursue my interest in these two topics. I want to take up chemistry as it involves a large amount of mathematics which I value and understand to be challenging, yet very enjoyable, as there is always an alternative route to obtain the answer. Additionally, I am drawn to the course because it is a mixture of all these exacting subjects, forming a degree that is very demanding and stimulating. Chemists are constantly thinking of new ways to produce viable drugs containing different isomers to improve the pharmaceutical sector using mathematical equations. Chemistry is about innovation, applying information to new areas and how to do things better than they were before, the degree appeals to and fascinates me.
Hello, my name is Jacqueline Collins, ever since I was a teenager, I have always wanted to help people. I believe, I was born a caretaker by nature and absolutely love taking care of people. In high school, I decided, I wanted to be a nurse. Nevertheless, after High School, I took a nursing assistant course for three months. Soon after completing the course, I started working as a nursing assistant in a Nursing Home. Consequently, I didn’t find working in this facility rewarding. However, I loved working with the elderly, but it didn’t challenge me enough. To reach my goals, I realize that I must, look for employment in a hospital, and pursue a Registered Nurse degree.
In order to pursue my dream, I have to first know different fields of medical sciences as well as the specific path I want to take for medicines in the future. For that reason, I will like to choose Medical Science as one of my Majors. Furthermore, from my biology class this year, I was deeply captivated by the functions of organisms and the transformation of genes. I believe that, by applying for Genetics taught by the professionals, I will be able to further my insight on DNA. Lastly, in the hope of better understanding the dynamics of human emotions, behaviors, and mental disorders, I will like to study Psychology.
Then I came to the UK, aged 15, for a better education, but having to take my GCSEs in less than a year of arriving here, in a language I was not yet confident in, meant I did not get the grades I had hoped for. Despite facing all these difficulties, I progressed to level 3 BTEC in Applied Sciences which gave me a good grounding in technical lab skills and one year later to college where I took an Access to Higher Education course covering Biology, Chemistry and Physics. This has helped me develop my independent study skills, team work and research
I am interested in acquiring new skills and this curiosity has led me to study sciences for A level. I take a particular interest in Biology and the interrelation between it and oral health. This, along side my work experience, has motivated me to pursue a Medical degree. I am aware of the challenges of medicine but I believe I can thrive in such a field.
The way it can be applied to the quantitative and practical elements of Biology and Chemistry A-Levels has deepened by attraction to the sciences and have led me to further enhance my analytical and evaluative skills. This in turn has increased my confidence in carrying out more challenging procedures and experiments. Mathematics at A-Level has helped improve my lateral thinking and problem solving skills, which has enabled me to then transfer these skills logically and systematically when carrying out wave optic calculations during the course. Economics at AS Level as broadened my knowledge outside of the sciences, and has provided an insight into how businesses
The importance of the becoming a pharmacist should not be about what the career can give a person in monetary value or the amount of accolades one receives. Instead, the career should be about saving and improving human lives and serving the public. Pharmacists keep people healthy, make them feel better, and try to help the public live longer and happier lives as long as possible. From small infant children to the elderly, everyone needs pharmaceutical care. Sometimes it can be a matter of life and death if medication is not available to the public. Pharmacy as a career would be a wise decision if a person could withstand the amount of education the profession entails.
I am applying to the M.Sc. program in Medical Physics and Imaging within the Department of Medical Biophysics at the University of Toronto. Having majored in Electrical and Biomedical Engineering as an undergraduate, my primary interest lies in the field of medical imaging, in which I am fascinated in advancing and improving MRI methodology and technology, specifically with respect to in vivo spectroscopy. Improvements in medical imaging have provided a breakthrough in medicine, with the ability to noninvasively diagnose and treat patients. My primary concentration among the many medical imaging modalities is the MRI, due to the flexibility of its techniques and its safe use.
I have always been good at biology and mathematics. This is one reason why one of my many goals is to major in biomedical engineering. I am very excited to start studying biomedical sciences, and hope to use my newly learned skills in the medical field. Achieving a college education in such field will pave the road for my future career, by teaching and instilling knowledge that would not have been learned otherwise.
My desire of studying biomedical sciences stems from my sciences interest, as it demonstrates a world not visible to the naked eye, plays a big role in everyday life. science specifically biology and chemistry are stimulating and challenging subjects , over the years of studying them ,my interest has increased because learning things about how our bodies function and how it relates to god’s creation is particularly interesting for me. I also find it very important because I’m Muslim. The biomedical science degree will open for me the door to learn more about the vast field of biology and its branches to a greater depth. I developed my knowledge in the science field by taking support classes in the lab at school; I was fascinated by how the body can function in different circumstances and the complexity of DNA, different organisms, chemical reactions, and also very importantly the mathematical aspect which gives me the chance to develop and use my logic and it inform me to new ways of looking at given problems.
I am currently taking Maths, Chemistry and Biology to Advanced Higher, all of which are challenging and stimulating subjects. They have all influenced me in different ways and were integral in my decision to pursue a degree in Chemical Engineering. They have also helped me obtain a foundation of core skills and extended knowledge to hopefully prepare me undertaking my desired degree. There is no doubt that Maths and chemistry have helped fine tune and advance my problem solving skills and think in a more logical manner, all of which I believe to be essential for this degree.
Like every career, pharmacists have certain qualities and skills. I feel that I fit many qualities of pharmacists, including an attention to detail, communication skills, and science and mathematic skills. I have also been a perfectionist, paying attention to each detail of my work. This is what helped me stay organized throughout high school, and earn a 4.021 cumulative GPA. Pharmacists must be detail-orientated to ensure their patients receive the right dosage, amount, and type of medication. An error in this could harm the patient, therefore breaking the Hippocratic oath. Furthermore, a pharmacist must pay attention to the patient’s other prescriptions and medical history to avoid any negative reactions. Next, I have earned strong customer service and communication skills from my job at Fareway Food Stores. Since I earned this job in May 2012, I have made it one of my goals to assist and brighten the day of my customers. As a pharmacist, I would need strong communication skills with my patients to fit them with the best prescription possible. Additionally, I would counsel them on the directions of their mediation, any potential side affects, and how to add new medications into their lifestyle with the least amount of stress. Apart from my patients, I would have to communicate my with pharmacy technicians and any interns I may have, as well as insurance companies. Lastly, I feel I have natural abilities in science and mathematics. I
