Occupational therapy has been an increasingly rising profession and the impact they have on our very diverse society has been immense and clear. By working with individuals of all ages that may suffer from a spectrum of social, mental or physical disabilities, they provide help by giving support to service users, such as supplying medical equipment, that will allow them to carry out everyday tasks taking into consideration their health and lifestyle. I have always been interested in working closely with people and providing them support to better their lives, I have found that occupational therapists do so by enabling people to lead satisfying lives as independent as possible. I am intrigued at the positive contribution this profession has made to society and am incredibly eager to participate in this profession. My knowledge from A-Level Biology and Psychology has allowed me to appreciate and understand aspects of the human anatomy and physiology and also how people interact individually and with the wider society. Studying Chemistry and Maths has been both challenging but intriguing and I have been able to adapt the skills of paying attention to detail, managing, prioritising and conducting extensive research via these courses. Furthermore, Health and Social Care has taught me the importance of the multidisciplinary team and how to achieve optimum patient care. It has also taught me the best possible approaches when communicating with service users to ensure that they understand all concepts and that their best interests are taken into consideration. I also participated in summer school projects, where I worked as part of a team through scenarios that are used to train healthcare professionals, teaching me the importance of cooperation in a multi-disciplinary team and how vital working together is in delivering optimum healthcare as occupational therapists liaise with a wide variety of health and social care professionals in order to provide and elicit the best treatment. Aside from my academic studies, I enjoy a variety of activities such as baking, learning languages and playing netball. Although studying occupational therapy may prove to be exigent and demanding at times, my enthusiasm drives my determination to pursue a career in this field. I look forward to the challenges of higher learning and the prospect of fulfilling my ambitions.
