Before I entered the foster care system, I thought that I would walk in the same footsteps as my sisters. I would probably get pregnant at the age of fifteen or be on the streets, but everything changed when I met my foster parents. I experienced the support of a caring family, the importance in making good decisions for the future, and learned about college. At the age of sixteen, I moved into my foster parents’ home, that it was my second foster home in one year. I thought, "Oh man, here we go again. I need to start all over again, new school, new friends and a new family." I was nervous, but as soon as I moved in, my foster mom made me, laugh and it calmed my nervousness. I saw my siblings as much as I could. My foster family was caring and functional, unlike my biological family. When I lived with my mother, I used to cook for everyone, clean the house, and care for my brother. When I was in school, I would worry if he were all right. My foster mom let me know I had responsibilities but that caring for the family was her job as the mother. My foster family believes in me and continues to motivate me to be the best I could be. My foster mom has always told me that I am a smart young woman and will accomplish anything I put my mind to. She would tell me that I am strong and she admires me for all my accomplishments. I graduated from high school with good grades with the help of my foster mom. When I had time, I spent weekends and holidays with my foster family. She still says I can come home anytime. I still talk her frequently and she is a grandmother to my children. I found stability and a family who love me. I guess I would say that I was a lucky foster kid. I have my biological family and now an extension of my family with my foster mom. I used to think that family was only your brothers and sisters, mom and dad. Now I know that your families are the people who are there for you in good times and bad times. I never thought that when I moved into my second foster home I was going to gain a family and find hope for the
