What's the problem in todays education? Is it the homework, the teachers, the classrooms? The problem actually isn't any of these; it actually is the lack of motivation, and grit in the students. Education and knowledge will always be expanding; and I agree with Duckworth that students need a better approach of learning from a motivational, and psychological view point. Kids and students involved in hard and rough situations were successful because of one attribute, and that was grit. Many high schoolers drop out every year because they lack the grit to keep going. Much is not known about building grit, except for one idea created at Stanford University by Dr.Dweck called "growth mindset." The belief that learning isn't fixed and it can change with your effort. Grittier kids don’t quit till they get the job done, "one characteristic emerged as a significant predictor of success, it wasn’t good looks, or IQ, it was grit." Duckworth said. Students with no grit will be lesser motivated to graduate and succeed in school; because there not going to try as hard, and they don’t have the tenacity to achieve their life long goals. When I was in high school there were times where I just wanted to give up; my grades would plummet down faster then a asteroid hitting the earth. My friends, counselors, and especially my family gave me the grit and motivation that being a dropout is the life I don’t want to live, so I never gave up.
