As the cost of college tuition continues to rise each year, many individuals are questioning if a college education is worth the time and effort needed to obtain a college degree. In today’s society, however, a high school education or diploma is not enough to insure a chance at having a good future. For many students, the decision on whether or not he/she should pursue a higher education is a major conflict for many young adults who are graduating high school. Therefore, while some students wonder if going to college is worth the price tag, in the end, the benefits associated with earning a college degree are proven to uphold numerous opportunities for individuals in the future.

My immediate goals after completing this program is to take some time off from school, pay off our (additional) student loans, and when the time is right possibly evaluate the feasibility of pursuing my Bachelor Degree in Healthcare Administration or continue on in trying to obtain my Master 's Degree in Nursing. However, I currently foresee immediate challenges to those plans - my eldest child, my son, is currently a junior in high school, aspiring to become a Pharmacist and attend UH Hilo. Having this scholarship would mean I would not have to take a loan or could take a smaller loan to pay for collage. Loans, especially school loans, have caused many individuals to be in debt. I do not want to graduate college and already have an enormous amount of debt to try and pay off. Collage is expensive especially for a one income family. Over the years, society has changed. During the old times, a high school diploma was sufficient. Acquiring a high school diploma was an achievement that families used to brag about when their children received it.
