The 1950s in America was a time of conflict and breaking boundaries in music, art, and television. Marilyn Monroe was a major part of pop-culture during the fifties and she remains immensely popular to this day. After her loveless childhood and harsh relationship with her mother transpired, Marilyn made a name for herself through acting and modeling, up until her mysterious death which the truth about still remains unknown. Marilyn Monroe was born Norma Jean Baker on June 1st, 1926 and was raised by her mother, Gladys Baker. Marilyn’s mother was a flapper and due to her mother’s frequent affairs, and short-lived marriages when Marilyn was young, Marilyn’s father’s identity remains unknown. She found comfort and inspiration in many film stars such as Jean Harlow, leaving her with dreams of stardom from a young age. As her popularity grew she was guilted into dying her hair blonde after everyone told her she would never make it as a brunette in the acting and modeling world. She was often cast as “dumb blonde” character in many movies and in a time when giggly blonde actresses were considered dumb she grew weary of stereotyping in the film industry which led.
