Although, (subordinating) there were other iconic people during the Twentieth century Marilyn Monroe is arguably one of the most famous women of that time because she changed many people’s lives. While doing some research on (subordinating) her I’ve come to realize that she did change many people’s lives. Marilyn wasn’t afraid to be herself and (coordinating) be who she really was. She showed women that they didn’t have to be afraid to be who they were and taught them that they were beautiful no matter what. In this paper, I will explain how (subordinating) Marilyn Monroe changed people’s lives and became one of the most recognized faces in the world.

The majority of commercials for beauty supplies or a clothing line include a beautiful, thin young woman modeling the product. As a result, teenage girls start to believe that they have to be a toothpick to be beautiful or model like. However, this was not true in the 50s. The 50s hit sensation Marilyn Monroe was considered one of the most beautiful women in that time period, yet she did not try lose weight. Marilyn Monroe was definitely one of the most influential women of the 20th century because of her views on body image, her unique fashion statements, and her impact on pop culture.
Marilyn Monroe was considered a popular sex symbol during the 50s. First having success as a model, and then actress, and singer, she was able to do it all in a talented way. She was able to overcome a difficult childhood without her parents, and eventually become the star she is known as today. In a short time Marilyn was able to live her life to the fullest, having the fame, and enough love affairs to last a century. However, she couldn’t completely get away from her past, getting involved with drugs, and having a mental breakdown.
In the later part of the 1960’s, women fought for independence and equality, which led to the establishment of the roles they now play in modern society. At the present time, some of the most influential people are women – politicians, philanthropists and entrepreneurs, which are immeasurably distant from their roles as housewives or homemakers in the past. However, these transformations do not work alone; there are factors that have greatly influenced these changes, one of which is how filmmakers’ portray women in society.Film has sparked social ideals like the Beauty Ideal that transformed into a gruesome Thin Ideal whichposed as a reminder to women of how beauty is supposed to be. Unfortunately, even if film reflects what happens in society, they have created negative portrayals of women that outweigh the positive portrayals of women in film and are continually being carried on in film and in society. American filmmakers’ portrayal of women should continue to emphasize the importance of their roles in society.

Her name is recognized everywhere, all know Marilyn Monroe, her images gives us thoughts of scandal, sadness, beauty, movies, and loss. She captivated the world with her sex appeal and innocence; she had that special chemistry that a camera always seemed to find and love. Her personality characteristics enabled her to become one of the most famous stars of Hollywood but the same traits also brought about her downfall. As the 1950s moved through many images of women there were a few traits that stood strong. Beauty, whether it be in the perfect Miss American form, Barbie doll or sexy Marilyn Monroe was important. Girls at young ages were taught in a way that would shape American women for the future. Even though a more sexual image of a woman arose with Marilyn Monroe, America did not lose the sight of the non-realistic beauty and personality traits that were expected.
