Marilyn Monroe was one of the most influential icons of the 1960’s, modeling, actress, and singer she left an imprint on the world that is still prominent today. From starting out as just a normal girl to a world famous icon that would be remembered for decades to come. How did an idol who died suddenly after only starring in some movies have such an impact on today’s culture? Nearly half a century later we still see her on clothes, novelties, even in commercials.
Marilyn was seen as a sex symbol and many went wild over the fact. Even though at the time anything sexual or promiscuous was frowned upon, she was changing America’s culture and bringing in a new age. It was revealed Monroe posed for nude photographs and it threatened her career, instead she embraced it and even joked about it. She broke the social norms and that’s what help shape The Sexual Revolution of the 1960’s. This revolution helped shape our society as it today, and without Monroe the revolution would not have been so powerful. She brought social acceptance to sex even though she wasn’t an “ideal” women by today’s standards. Without this our “today” could be very different. Most movies she starred in she was portrayed as a dumb blonde, over time she grew tired and wanted to be taken seriously. She starred in comedy in which had mixed reviews, Monroe then went back to her work as portraying a “dumb blonde” Her most famous scene was from the movie The Seven Year Itch in which Monroe stands over a grate and her dress is blow up revealing her underwear, which during the conservative time pushed the boundaries.
