How Did Frederick Douglass Change America

America would not be the same without him. Frederick Douglass was born into slavery in
February 1818 in Maryland and died on February 20 1895 in Washington D.C. at the age of 77.
Frederick Douglass was one of the most influential people in American history due to his life work in politics after escaping slavery.

Frederick Douglass was a new type of person to be born into America; during his life time he was able to make numerous accomplishments and change America for the better. He was a great public speaker, writer, and American historical figure. “The act of laughing with others is the act of sharing and bonding.”(Douglass). Helping in the abolishment of slavery is one of the many great changes that Frederick Douglass has done in changing America.

Once Frederick Douglass had influenced his opinion about the abolishment of slavery he moved onto the women’s rights movement. Influencing Americans towards his views on one of the major political issues in America was not enough for Frederick Douglass. “In Rochester,
Douglass took his work in new directions. He embraced the women’s rights movement , helped people in the underground railroad, and supported anti-slavery political parties.”(People). This quote explains how Frederick Douglass was not primarily an anti-slavery figure he was also a figure for women’s rights because he thought everyone should be equal no matter the race of the gender of the person. This is one of the main reasons Douglass learned how to read, yet no credit is given to his former owner. Most slaves developed a relationship with their owners, in which their owners taught them useful skills such as reading, writing, simple math and farming skills. Another argument brought into Douglass’ speech was that most churches were segregated, and in turn perpetuated the racism that helped keep slavery alive in well. He proposed that a God that wouldn’t allow such evil and disservice in this world would contradict everything the bible proposes and teaches.
