“Everything you practice whether it be on the court of off the court, its all helping you take the next step to success.”- Adrianna Proulx. Evidently, most people believe that basketball teaches you how to win or lose games and how to become physically fit. As a result, these two men were my biggest influence in my basketball career. Greg Cambell taught me how to be a hard worker and how to stay tough, physically and mentally. I can picture in my head Greg Cambell always making us to sprints up and down the court for every missed layup. He told us that the better basketball teams are the ones who are in shape. Evidently, you have to be able to make it up and down the court to compete in a basketball game. For this reason, Greg Cambell making us do sprints taught me to keep my head up and push through the end. There has been many times in life where I have started something and wanted to quit right away. However, I have been reminded and told to never give up, and persevere till the end. SAYBA basketball also taught me the importance of discipline. When my team was at practice we set free throw goals for ourselves, and if we didn’t make our goal, the whole team had to run. Therefore, learning the skill of discipline carried over to my schoolwork. I have disciplined myself to study for a test and getting projects done ahead of time. I know that when I do not study or complete a task, there will be consequences involved.
