I dearly loved the sports of my birthplace (soccer, cricket & rugby), but one of the major influences that helped me with my transition was falling in love with basketball.
Being part of the basketball clique in high school helped me learn the intrapersonal and social communication skills I use today. As a child playing basketball was my favorite activity or hobby. It's also the way I met a lot of my good friends that I have now. All my close friends I have met. I have met them through playing basketball.. Whether they were on my team, the opposing team or just fans in the crowd who admired my play. Not only has basketball helped me gain friends, but basketball also taught me a lot about life. There are many aspects of life that coincide with basketball. For instance basketball is a team game and an individual game. Like in life you have to work together with other people. The communication skills I learned from basketball helped me communicate with friends, girlfriends, parents and bosses at work.
Ever since I was a little boy, about eight years old or so, I had an extreme passion for the sport of basketball. On weekends, I would wake up in the morning, eat a bowl of frosted flakes or cheerios, put on basketball shorts and then go in my driveway to shoot around. I would be out there for hours just shooting around or playing with some random kids that I would occasionally see walking around my neighborhood. This was satisfaction to me, but even better was playing on multiple public teams and not just playing in my driveway every day. In elementary school, I played in a recreational league, just like almost every other kid who tries out basketball when they were younger. This was fun and all but it was nothing too serious. As a child, I would go to every sports game that you could possibly imagine, but the sport that intrigued me the most was basketball. Seeing the players doing incredible things, the fans getting hyped, the music blasting in the stands. What more can you ask for in a basketball game? I believe basketball is one of the most energetic and the best sport ever played since there are a variety of teams to choose from, there are opportunities for the spectators to get involved, and lastly, the fans don’t have to deal with the inclimate weather. I try to use the same approach in life as well. The game of basketball can be applied to almost anything in life. For example, if you love the game like I do you’d have an amazing work ethic. You would want to take advantage of any opportunity given to get better at the game, right?
For as long as I can remember Basketball has always been a part of my life. My Dad, my sister and I would always go outside and play around and since he is a coach, he would always help with improving my skills and helping me become a better player. I have always loved the sport and it eventually became second nature to me. After a few months of house league I enrolled into competitive sports. At first I did not want to play because I was so used to playing house league that I did not want to meet new people and get new teammates and was also scared of not making the team
I enjoy doing sports. One sport that I play and enjoy doing is basketball. I have been playing basketball since 2nd grade and I love to play basketball. I have a goal outside my house and everyday after school, I go and practice on the goal. I play a post position because I am tall and I can do stuff that small people can’t do.
I like basketball a lot because sometimes when i’m not thinking straight i just go play basketball to clear my mind, This sport encourages me to work hard for what i want.
