While embracing the start of my High School career, my academic endeavors have allowed me to grow exponentially as a person. The unique extracurriculars and courses that the Freshman Center have provided, allowed me to take charge of the opportunity to challenge myself academically. With that challenge, coincidentally allows for another opportunity to give back to the community; allowing to make a positive impact in subtle ways. The National Junior Honor Society provides the opportunity to do just that, and beyond. The corner stone of this Honor Society relies on the solid foundation of the five pillars: Character, Service, Scholarship, Citizenship, and Leadership. I am exceptionally grateful for this opportunity to possibly be a member of this very prestigious organization. Every day I work tremendously hard to be noticed by both other scholars and my teachers. Now that an opportunity has come, I am truly excited to demonstrate and live by the values of The National Junior Honors Society. I hope to further expose and show both my dedication and want to join arms with my community and my peers and I wish to continue to work with passion and fire to shape the world into a brighter place.
The National Honors Society is based off of four pillars: Scholarship, Leadership, Character and Service. These are all characteristics a member of the National Honor Society should exhibit. I believe that I possess all of these characteristics and should be given the chance of becoming a NHS member. This has also been a goal of mine since freshman year and would mean a lot to me to be apart of such a prestigious organization.
National Honors Society is an extremely prestigious and well-known group that gave me the opportunity to assist the community while working harmoniously with my peers. To get into NHS, there are four pillars one must fulfill, including, scholar, service, leadership, and character. One may not realize it, but these qualities apply all throughout life. In order to be successful, one must achieve some form of each pillar. Being dedicated and committed to learning and improving but also using the knowledge one previously has is to be a scholar. As a student at Northvale Public School, I grew up with my older siblings being inducted into an organization called the National Junior Honor Society. I had seen all the hard work and dedication they put into their school work and activities just to get into this society, making me want to be just like them. Then a few weeks ago, I found a note on my desk in the homeroom telling me that I had been nominated to be apart of this society. Through citizenship and character, leadership, and service, I intend on being inducted into the society I have heard so much about. Though it will take a lot of effort this school year, being a part of this society is a dream of mine that I will make sure to come true.
Most people look at the four pillars of the National Honor Society as separate ideas, but in reality they are not. All four pillars are designed to build off of one another, this is why they were chosen because the development of one of the pillars in a person leads to the development of all four of the pillars.
Scholarship, service, leadership, and character, the four pillars of National Honor’s Society, have exceedingly shaped my development. Each pillar has a significant meaning and they are highly important factors that every person should do their best to pursue. I will apply each of these pillars to my future goals by continuing to have the best scholarship. service, leadership, and character that I can.
As a member of National Honor Society, I integrate the four pillars into my daily life. Through the scholarship pillar, I commit myself to the quest for knowledge. Coming from immigrant parents with no college degrees, I take it upon myself to achieve a quality education and provide myself a bright future. In my future occupation as a pediatric occupational therapist, I will utilize the scholarship pillar by advancing my knowledge and providing my patients the most up to date care.
The National Honor Society is based off of four pillars: Scholarship, Leadership, Service, and Character. School is an extremely important part of anyone’s life, and I feel blessed that I have had the opportunity to attend Lutheran schools from Kindergarten until the present. Our Shepherd Lutheran and Lutheran High Northwest have helped me to grow in my faith and to continue to grow academically as well. Attending these schools has also allowed me to participate in many different extra-curricular activities such as Varsity Soccer in my freshman year, Varsity Track my sophomore year, Pit Band for school musicals, Jazz band, and Pep band. This 2009-2010 school year I also have the opportunity to be the First Chair Flute and Piccolo in regular Concert Band and the other band functions which will provide me with an opportunity to gain experience in leadership which will help me in college and in my future career. Service is an important activity to participate in. During the past two years I have helped my mom and the rest of the committee at my church with funeral luncheons. When there is a funeral at my church the family of the deceased has the option of having a luncheon at the church, and if they choose, following the funeral, the committee that my mom is on takes care of getting the food that the family wants, serving the food, and then cleaning up after the luncheon is over. When they need help I also go and help out. Also, my family recently became a Foster family for the Michigan Humane Society. In November of this year, I am going on a mission trip to Madrid, Spain, with my cousin, who is a pastor, and a group from his church, Valley Springs, in Roseville, California. Our main aim is going to be talking to the college students there and trying to plant churches. We are going to be helping them work on their English, and I will get to use my Spanish. I have also had the opportunity to work in the Lutheran Church of the Redeemer nursery which was my first paying job. Every Sunday morning I am in the nursery from 9 until 12, or later if needed, watching peoples children up to four years of age while they attend church.
Mahatma Gandhi once recited that, “The best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others”. Service projects help in projecting the giving that people do for the community.
National Junior Honor Society as a nation premier organization started to recognize outstanding middle-level students. NJHS is a way to honor students who have demonstrated an extraordinary amount of excellence in the areas of the five pillars which are, scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. This organization that was started in 1929 is a great opportunity for me to show my family and teachers how hard I work to get this far. I am deeply honored to be among the exemplary student who are being considered for this program. This organization the so many great things in society, and knowing that I could potentially be a part of it and play a part in futuring the impression that the organization has already made. I am a determined student, and will do anything to do my absolute best even when something hard is thrown my way. I have always hoped to be a part of something big like National Junior Honor Society, and I hope that this will be my chance to be a part of something big. In my essay I have provided several reasons why you should consider me being on National Junior Honors Society.
Being nominated for National Junior Honor Society is a highly prestigious honor, and I am very grateful to be a candidate. To be a member of this prestigious organization means so much to me just to be invited to be one of its members. Leadership is a great skill to have. So, by being a member of this group I would be showing leadership. I am also a hard worker and a great role model who always helps others. I am confident in my leadership qualities and want to help the community. I plan to demonstrate leadership, create enthusiasm, and develop character for academic excellence while participating in NJHS. Whenever I set a goal, I am certain to achieve it. With my outstanding personality and traits, I plan to be useful to NJHS and my school.
It is an extraordinary honor to be considered as a candidate for the National Honor Society. This means I have achieved my goal in demonstrating my determination- in school and outside of school- and my willingness to aid people in my community. Being a part of such a prestigious organization is a huge responsibility in which I will fully devote my time to. Ever since I was a freshman, my goal was to work diligently to be amongst the highest scholars and to be accepted into this scholarly “hall of fame”. Through my immeasurable hardwork and perseverance, I believe that I contain the four characteristics of a National Honor Society member- leadership, service, character, and scholarship.
The pillars of National Honor Society make up the qualities a person must obtain in order to create something so unbelievably colossal that will change the way people live and think for the better.
As a member of my high school's National Honor Society, I participated in numerous leadership and community service opportunities.
As a student at Ridgeway Middle School, I understand that my academic performance and achievement are the results of my hard work and dedication, which led to the opportunity of me becoming a leader and member of the National Junior Honor Society. By obtaining a GPA of 3.6 and higher, I strongly believe that I have met expectations and requirements to honorably become a member of the National Junior Honor Society. Additionally, I have participated in many competitions, let alone studying and school commitment.
