High school is suppose to be a very interesting time for some teens, as it is said to be the best four years of your life. You meet new friends, learn more about your studies, and learn how life will really be like for you after it has ended. High school is also a place where it teaches teens’s how to grow up, and be an adult. One interesting way high school teaches us this is by the teens ability to get a job while they are still in school. Around the age of 15 or 16 years old, teens are able to get a part time job. With a part time job, you would work usually less than 30 hours a week. Most people will say that teens having a job takes away from their studies, and would probably start seeing their grades fall because of their job. Most teens have extra curricular activities they do after school, whether its sports or school clubs. Adding a part time job to that mix can seem pretty hectic. It’s all about how one manages their time. If you don’t manage your time between school, extra curricular activities, and work, you start to feel overwhelmed. Most teens have a hard time balancing their schedules on their first job. In an interview with Alysa Lawrence, she had felt that “the first week at my job, it took me a little while to learn how to balance school and work. Once I got the hang of it, it was a lot easier”. It’s better for teens to plan out around their work schedule. You realize you have school until 3 PM, and you have to work right after that until 9 PM. By creating yourself a schedule, you’ll realize that you still have time after you get off of work to do homework. Also, the days that you have off of your job, you could be doing your homework. Students spend four years of their lives attending high school. Going through high school is mandatory as it prepares them for college and strength to face “the real world.” Having part-time jobs has become the phenomenon among high school students and many students follow this trend as well. Moreover, there are some pros and cons attached with it. Though it may seem like working throughout high school is a bad idea, it could better prepare students for “the real world.” Although some people believe that the primary duty of a student is studying, I am of the opposite position. I strongly support the idea that high school students should work throughout high school. This is because they can earn money, become responsible and get experience.
Summary: In the essay, “Part-time Employment Undermines a Student’s Commitment to School” by Laurence Steinberg, it explains how studies show that teenagers that work while attending school are more likely to loose their commitment to school. Steinberg tells the effects on students when they work more than twenty hours a week. His theory was that students are more susceptible to losing their interest in school, while working. They may have to work in the evening time, which can interfere with homework, sleep and diet. Steinberg also elaborated on how these students that work receive money that can make school seem less desirable. Also because they do receive money, they can use their extra money to become associated with drugs and alcohol.
Most teens are getting jobs at high school ages. They would need a way to get to and from work on their own. More often than not a teens work schedule is not going to coincide with the parent or guardian's schedule. The job would just end up being a hassle for both the teen and the parent taking them. If they have a license, there would not be a problem with getting a job when they can take themselves whenever. Having a job in high school sets you up to be more responsible, builds time management skills, and you can save up college money or money to support yourself.
The schools that start classes before 8:00AM, the students are not getting enough sleep at night. In the passage Up For Debate: Should School Start Later It states “Many adolescents suffer from chronic sleep deprivation.” We need the schools to fix this by allowing students to get more sleep by changing the time school starts, to a more reasonable time. Therefore letting the students get the sleep they need to work exceptionally at school. Starting the school day later will also help with the amount of money the school pays for. Starting later would be most beneficial for schools around the world.

Jobs won’t only support teens for the things they want, but it can help benefit for the things they need. The first things teens think of for their future are going to college and getting their first car. But, let’s say there’s a well educated thirteen-year-old, raised in a low-income family, who has plans on going to college. There’s no way their family can support him to go to college, and its funds could be over-whelming. The only way they could go to college is if they started saving at an early age. Therefore, if they got a job at the age they were at now, they’d be on their way to college by the time they graduate high school. Or, another example would be, if a teen wanted to get their first car on their sixteenth birthday. As you may know, many teens don’t get things handed to them on a silver platter, so they’d have to buy that car themselves. They might be old enough to drive, but they just turned the legal working age. Once they get a job, they’d have to wait at least a year to have enough money for the car as well as its insurance.
Have you ever woken up tired and groggy like that one more hour of sleep could have helped you in the morning. Well you could blame it on your school, does it start too early? Most schools start around 8:00am and most kids today don't go to bed exactly at 10:00pm like they should. Students should get a minimum of 8 ½ hours of sleep. Most kids say that's not enough time to get dressed, eat, and any other activities they do in the morning and get to school awake and alert. Schools day should start later because it gives students extra time to sleep and be ready and awake during schools and it could improve academics.

It’s because it can help you with your financial education or just with your education in general. It can help enhance your brain with problem-solving depending on where you work like McDonald's. School is the one thing most kid dread the most. They have to wake up early and go to a place where they have to learn for 8 hours. One thing that kids don't dread is their summer vacation. 2 whole months of sitting around not having to do anything. The idea has been brought up that school should go all year. Some parents might agree on this so they don't have to deal with their children all day long for 2 months straight but the students are not on board with this.
It is very common that many high school students hold part time jobs while going to school. When these teens work, they are able to learn and experience life lessons from ethical and moral work. Although I’ve never worked a day in my life, I value the idea of work. My parents have always steered me away from work, in order for me to solely focus on school. Ever since joining Early College High School, my free time is limited. Being in both high school and college is extremely time-consuming, which doesn’t give me much of a choice but to focus only on school. Even though I don’t work, I think that there are many advantages in working while going to school. If my situation of being both in high school and college were different, working is something I would definitely attempt to do. Working while going to school helps with time management, budget-spending, and the chance to learn new things at work.
