The course, “Special Topics in Health Informatics”, has helped explain how to present quality information on the healthcare industries information issues, strategies and transpiring challenges in order to dissect problem-solving opportunities. These topics also reflect upon the current state, progress, and future outlooks that both health care and informatics leaders and managers are faced with. Some of the topics that the guest speakers and individual assignments that stood out to me consisted of Business Intelligence and Data Analysis, the Washington State Department of Health, Informatics Perspective of Medical Centers Integration, and both Environmental Scans #1 and #2, which were individual assignments as well as the discussions. The Department of Health essentially focuses on issues related to improving the health that get provided within the Washington state residents and its communities. In this case, I have been able to conceptualize the idea that public health programs help promote healthy communities and their lifestyles, by both reducing the spread of communicable diseases and providing rapid responses to public health emergencies. With that being said, even if health care services become more widely available and receptive, patients, doctors, and private sectors shouldn’t feel the urge to address all types of community-wide health issues that are already covered in the …show more content…

Horan described, which was based on both UW Medicine/Northwest Hospital & Medical Center setting. These specific hospitals have the ability to access patient information through their IT information system, which helps assess the system’s performance with EHR in use. As the speaker explained, the overall implementation process of the IT system shows some challenging characteristics but overcoming them will enable their overall business to meet standards and requirements. To me, it showed some relatable components since I reevaluated Northwest Hospitals EHR system and helped me understand how to gather necessary information that both hospitals and patients can benefit from. Even though their EHR is associated with their legacy system and is challenging to switch between systems, it ensures solutions that provides the best workflow within their respective environment. The EHR system also performs a variety of specific specialized functions for each department that I wasn’t originally aware of. Essentially, the development of electronic medical records (EMR’s) systems first began as a means to document clinical activities for both in-patients and out-patients landscapes.
