The relevant and intense claims that Harlon Dalton makes about the falsehood of the Horatian Alger picture perfect view of the American Dream, are still very much relevant in todays society and in everyday American Life. In regard to specifically minorities, Dalton’s claims support the ideas of racial discrimination in America, stereotypes of African Americans, and education disparity in different regions. One of Dalton’s main claims in his piece, Racial Healing is the racial despair that has existed from the very begging that caused for African Americans and other racial minorities to be a step behind from the beginning. A prominent historical event that relates directly to the idea of racial separation in America, is the Civil Rights Movement in the 1950’s and 60’s. This monumental fight from African Americans for basic civil liberties accurately lends to the point of never having a truly fair shot at the American Dream like others. The sole act of having to fight to be treated the same as the person next to you in your own country demonstrates the fundamental gap between African Americans and Whites in America. Whites never had to fight to be treated with fundamental liberties, therefore putting their attempt at the American Dream much more plausible than an …show more content…

Racial stereotypes in America makes it almost impossible for any race minority to achieve anything they want and the American Dream without being held back by simply by their race. Minorites simply have no chance at this dream that everyone is so desperate on achieving in their life, if they can not be looked at base on their merit and are judged by their name. This incredibly racist and inherently wrong statistic is unfortunately a prominent example of what living in America is like as any minority of specifically as an African
