Death at the Dinner Table The sun is starting to go down and the smell of food lingers all through your house. It is everyone’s favorite time of the day, dinnertime. But not everyone does dinnertime like the Hardy family does. Jasmine Hardy, who is the middle child of her family, is a sophomore at East Carolina University. Besides Greenville, she claims her true home to be in Durham, NC, where she was raised with her older sister and younger brother. Throughout her childhood, Hardy remembers fondly of how much her and her entire family would get in the most intellectual debates every night during dinnertime, with the ringleader of these debates being her father, Rev. Hardy’s brother Gregory said, “Growing up in my family I learned a lot through debates that we had at the dinner table. It's has allowed me to have patience and it has made me profound speaker.” This shows personal proof that by the Hardy family gathering every night for dinner, it has allowed all of them to grow both physically and psychologically. The greatest part of their growth through debating is that every night there was always an absolutely new topic from the night before. Hardy’s father said, “Whether it is sports, politics, religion, music, or the latest technology, the Hardy’s are self-profess subject matter experts.” Hardy also said “During our debates we get on the defending side of things and will argument topics until death at the dinner table!” This dinner table motivation has led her to accomplishing many leadership positions in programs she truly cares about advocating for. An example would be her most recent accomplishment is being on the East Carolina University’s Black Student Union Executive Board, which is an organization she holds close to her heart at college. Hardy said, “I defiantly gravitated towards this (The Black Student Union), because I feel a little bit more comfortable here. I am an activist for equality.” Her family will always respect her viewpoint on things and support her actions of using her
