Pondering regarding my fellow classmates’ posts and additional article readings, I consider that groupthink, persuasion, and genetics should be additional concepts that I should have in mind when addressing individuals in a health psychology setting. If the vice president suggested that the IT department should bypass the initial steps and immediately get to work on her requests my response would depend on what the request is. If it’s a minor request then yes, I would probably skip it as it won’t be necessary. However, if it was a major request then I would say no. I wouldn’t feel comfortable not having a preliminary investigation before jumping straight into the request if it’s a big request that could cause major changes.
Individual counseling, the client is working on personal issues without having to share with others, but only with the counselor that is there to reinforce patterns of behavior, or to help make any other personal adjustments. This model is similar to socialization groups in that this model helps the clients build a report within the group and foster mutual aid networks that can be used as a tool for coping even after the group terminates. Unlike a socialization group this group also has another function and that is to help the clients gain valuable skills that will help them in life when they are experiencing a crisis or other issue that causes them emotional distress. This model is different from the remedial model because the reciprocal model is group focused and relays less on worker activity and more on group cohesiveness and mutual support to work through issues after a coping tool is learned. Working together with other people for an assignment can be a challenging task in some cases but luckily, I worked well with my group members. The decisions we made were anonymous although we paced ourselves individually when it came to completing our separate parts of the essay. As a group I believe that we connected well on an interpersonal level as all four of us were able to make alterations to any problem together . Furthermore, we did not give each other a chance to get angry at one another as we knew that this would only cause conflict that would disrupt our flow as a group. There was an equal divide in the amount of work that we all did; our contributions were fair and no one was lacking behind. In addition, my group members were great at keeping each other informed if one of us were not able to attend a group meeting; emails were sent out informing us what we missed and ideas that were formulated. Everyone in my group worked according to deadlines and in synchronization with each other; we did not have to nag anyone to complete work or wait on a member to complete their task.
In the group it is important to them that the group members are accept and supportive. Others within the group who have a sense of we-ness will defend the group. They also have a more positive outcome in group cohesiveness because they feel safe and acceptance. We all have a desire to feel like we belong and feel accept I think group cohesiveness will work well with those seeking acceptances.
Realizing that a group can become a high performance team is important. Accomplishing this goal is invaluable, advantageous and profitable. Once able to operate from a group to the high performing team is a great step into preparation into the big business world. Leaders and members must also realize not only how to accomplish this but that some problems will and can arise from different demographic characteristics and cultural diversity. That is if one is in such a group, which the probability would be quite high.
