Graphic design is using visual communication including typography, photography and illustration. Graphic designers create and combine symbols, text and images to form visual representations of ideas and messages. They use typography, page layouts and visual art techniques to create visual compositions. Common uses of graphic design include company design (logos and branding), promotional design (magazines, newspapers and books), environmental design or wayfinding, web design, advertising, communication design, product packaging and signage. The graphic designer's experience and number of years that he has been doing graphic design are considered the primary qualifications. A portfolio is required to be shown at job interviews most of the time, and is constantly expanding throughout a designer's career. Current graphic designer jobs require expertise in one or more graphic design software programs. The common software package used in the graphic design industry is Adobe Creative Cloud. This software package contains the three main programs used by graphic designers, which are Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign. They must be able to create designs that are artistically interesting and engaging to clients and consumers. They produce rough illustrations of design ideas, either by hand sketching or by using a computer program. Graphic designers must communicate with clients, customers, and other designers to ensure that their designs accurately reflect the desired message and effectively express information. Most use specialized graphic design software to prepare their designs. They must be able to think of new approaches to communicating ideas to consumers. This all depends on how good you are at it, some of the better graphic designers made more than $77,360 a year, and some of the not so good ones made about less than $26,210 a year. So if you plan on becoming a graphic designer you might want another occupation to fall back on. Most small business owners try to cut corners and buy a logo off of a website rather than going to a professional and having a logo designed especially for you. A professional graphic designer can come up with a design faster than you could on your own and save you loads of time. If you want customers to come to you, you will have to stand out from the competition and spend money creating your website to make it stand
