The piano is a vital instrument in Western classical music, blues jazz, folk, rock music, film and television scoring, and many other musical genres. The piano keyboard offers an effective means of experimenting with complex melodic and harmonic interaction. The piano is an essential tool in music education. Pianos are used to help teach music theory, music history and music appreciation. Many great composers like Mozart and Beethoven have used the piano to its full potential and left behind masterpieces. Their music is played, taught and appreciated even years after their death.
The grand piano is made of three major components.
 The CASE, which is the wooden housing of the piano.
 The STRUNG BACK, which is made of the back frame, soundboard, cast-iron frame, and strings.
 The PLAYING MECHANISM, which is the complex system of levers that transmits the actions of the pianist to the hammers that strike the strings.
The case, is the wooden cabinet that houses the strung back and playing mechanism of the piano. The case must balance both proper acoustics and attractive looks. The purpose of the case is primarily decorative, but the wood also plays an important part in the resonant characteristics of the instrument.

To make the sounds louder, there is a large piece of wood mounted underneath them. When the strings vibrate, the soundboard also vibrates in sympathy (resonance).
